President's Message
Spring is upon us and as the days get longer and the temperature climbs, I hope everyone gets an opportunity to enjoy their horses more.
The Association held our annual general membership meeting and awards banquet on January 25th. A huge thank you to all that were able to attend with the date change due to winter weather.
I would like to thank Jamie Wright for volunteering to be our new Youth Coordinator replacing Hunter Offord. For the youth that would like to become involved, or find out more about the Youth Association, Jamie can be contacted at WAHA.youthcoordinator@gmail.com.
In addition, I would like to thank Melanie Erce for volunteering to be our new representative on the Wisconsin Horse Council.
The item on the agenda that had the most discussion this year was the budget. Specifically, the two traditional rated shows that WAHA has been involved in. The Show Committee spent countless hours analyzing the data and attempting to find solutions to the financial issues. In the end they were unable to find a way to have the Badger Classic show make a profit or break even. Significant changes for 2020 projected a small profit for the August show, but even more changes will likely be needed for 2021. Both shows are suffering from declining horse counts making it difficult to cover facility, judging, and show administration expenses. The final budget approved was to not participate in the Badger Classic this year, host the August show this year, and run a spring and fall open show. Thank you to everyone who spoke on this topic at the meeting and for keeping it polite and professional. Ideas presented, such as open breed dressage classes and partnering with another breed organization, will all be evaluated by the show committee to make our rated shows, and our association, financially viable into the future. For anyone wishing to serve on the Show Committee, or contribute ideas, please feel free to email me (tim@antearmannarabians.com) and I will forward on to the committee.
