We're All In This Together
From one business owner to the other, I know how you must be feeling. Anxious, shocked at the speed of this disaster, unsure as to how to plan and for how long, worried about staying afloat and how you are going to be able to take care of the people that count on you. For me, I’m feeling all of that, plus I am also worried about many or most of my clients that are already feeling the effects of the mass closures.
All of us at Ser & Associates are 100% committed to our small/midsize business clients and are doing all we can to provide solid and pertinent legal advice/guidance in these very uncertain times. From answering questions on how to handle employee layoffs and furloughs, explaining rights and obligations under a contract or lease, to just plain acting as a sounding board for their recovery plan. We are all in this together! And to do our part, we have implemented the following initiatives.
SER & ASSOCIATES INITIATIVES:
1) We are making ourselves available 7 days a week to our clients. So call us any time at 305-222-7282 or directly to my cell, 561-301-8706.
2) We are providing an automatic 25% discount on our fees through May 31, 2020.
3) We are diligently following the latest developments coming out of Washington, D.C. and Tallahassee regarding assistance for small business owners and their employees so that we can ensure that our clients and followers know where to get help.
Now is when each and every one of us has the opportunity to show our circle and community our resiliency, our determination and most of all, our kindness. If we may be of assistance to you or your business, please contact us at 305-222-7282 . In the meantime, I leave you with this:
“The ultimate measure of a man [and woman] is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

IRS Offers Tax Relief Due to Coronavirus
In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Federal government 1) has moved the tax filing deadline from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020; and (2) will be deferring interest and penalties on taxes due of up to $1 million for individuals and up to $10 million for corporations. The payment deferrals, that are interest and penalty free, will be for a period of 90 days. Please note that the IRS is still encouraging taxpayers to timely file their tax return, especially if you are expecting a refund.

EVENT RECAP: Lillian Speaks About Government Contracting and Minority Certification at Doral Bar Association
Lillian Ser, Esq. spoke about government contracting and minority certification at the Doral Bar Association event on Feb. 26 (photos above). The U.S. Federal Government is the largest consumer of goods and services, but only a staggering 5% of businesses are taking advantage of this. Government agencies at the local, state, and federal level purchase supplies that include furniture, office supplies, food, vehicles, security systems, toilet paper, etc. Services range from marketing consultants, engineers, surveyors, general contractors and trash collection, to accounting services, and more. The government has initiatives to hire minority-owned and small businesses. Ser & Associates can help you apply for these certifications and assist you in securing government contracts. To learn more, read our blog on this topic.
As a member of the Greater Kendall Business Association, Lillian A. Ser, Esq., founding managing partner of Ser & Associates, sat down with Mario Quintero, founder and president of Strock & Tanner Mortgage, as a guest on his YouTube show, One Stop Shop produced by MariosHomeNews.com. She discussed what small and mid-size business owners need to negotiate when signing a full-service commercial lease, such as exclusivity clauses, radius restrictions, zoning, and lease assignment.
Last month we launched a new monthly segment called “Small Business Stories,” where we profile one Ser & Associates business owner each month. We've selected to feature ulltium consulting this month. The cyber security consulting firm has enlisted our services to trademark their logo and tagline. Be on the lookout for an email from us later this month to learn more about our valued client, ulltium consulting.
