Message from PAVRO President, Aleksandra Vasic

In the time of COVID-19, we are all volunteers

Dear Colleagues,

As I sit down to write to you for this month’s ePowerline, I struggle with where to begin. The extent of global interdependence and interconnection is both a blessing and a curse, allowing this virus to spread at an unimaginable and relentless rate. To be depressed and anxious is frankly a rational response to what we are all experiencing.

I am, at the same time, an optimist by nature, and much of what I’ve seen and read recently has fed the optimistic side of my mind.

PAVRO LiVE Conference

With the postponement of PAVRO LiVE Annual Conference to the fall, we know that some members might be interested in using professional development funds now before March 31st, which is the fiscal year-end for many organizations. We are pleased to let you know that registration is still open until the end of March and we will keep your registration fee as a credit towards the conference in the fall. A full refund will be issued should the fall date not work for you. Register here
PAVRO Annual General Meeting - May 14th, 2020

The AGM will be held May 14th but we will look at hosting it virtually, perhaps combining it with some kind of webinar or virtual networking session. Please stay tuned for more information and we look forward to your participation.

Nomination deadline - Friday, March 27th!

Every day, we make a difference in the lives of our volunteers.  We build up their self-esteem and give them tools to do amazing work in our community.  We do it because we love our sector and strive to make our home a better place.  As leaders, we often don’t get recognized for our impactful work but let’s change that!

Your words have impact.  Please take some time to reflect to help give those who are visionaries the recognition she/he deserves.

Why Volunteers Drop You
Planning Alert! for Not-For-Profits

By Maggie Chicoine

What if we were to add one more “R” to the not-for-profit trio of significant “R’s” – Recruitment, Retention, Recognition.  Adding a column titled “Rejection” might offer significant insights as the fourth guidepost for planning purposes.

Curious as to why volunteers walk away from the status quo of organizations, I posted a simple statement on social media recently.  It read,  “I drop out as a volunteer when _____________.

Perhaps the basic question you and your colleagues might discuss is: “Do WE do this too?” >>Continue to article
