Body Builders

March 15, 2020 - coming to you a few days early

Dear <<First Name>>,

Friends, there is quite a bit of information available online about the Coronavirus. Below are the two responses from ABCUSA that I believe are very helpful. Many MID churches have also issued their own responses to this situation through their newsletters. I know that you are all taking the necessary precautions and I both applaud and appreciate your efforts. If there is something specific you need from the Region, please don't hesitate to contact me at exec@mid-abc.org.

An Update: COVID-19

Mid-American Baptist Churches strive to "work together to build up the body of Christ."
We hope this issue of Body Builders will provide news and helpful resources to assist your church in its ministry, as well as connect you to the broader ministry of American Baptists.

So what exactly does the Region do?  Click here and see

The Body Builders is the region's e-newsletter and is sent out on the 15th and the last day of each month. If you have content you would like to see included, please send your information to office@mid-abc.org and/or exec@mid-abc.org with the subject being: For Body Builders, and we will work to include it in the upcoming edition. Pictures are welcomed - especially if they are in a .jpg format.

Don't forget to SAVE THE DATE: We will gather as a family for our Biennial Meeting and celebrate the Region's 50th Anniversary on Friday and Saturday, October 2-3, 2020 in Pella, Iowa at First Baptist Church! Be a part of the celebration!
P.S. If you LOVE to plan parties, contact Jackie at the region office.
She's looking for party planners to help her plan and organize an event not to be missed.

If you know of someone who is not receiving the Body Builder and would like to - cut and paste the following link into an email and send it to them:
  http://eepurl.com/fw88-/.
Have them complete the form and submit, and they will be subscribed - starting with the next edition.

Our prayers go out to Associate Region Minister Rev. Gary Martin and his family on the death of his father Glen Earl Martin. The memorial service was held yesterday - March 14th at Renwick Baptist. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Glen Earl Martin to Dayton Oaks Camp. Glen Earl for many years was an active member of the Site Committee at Dayton Oaks.

A Request and a Word from our Region President - Dale Stevens

As many of you know, IMRS has ceased its services.  MABC no longer has an organization sharing space and expenses with our Region office.  We have reviewed the office facilities for necessary maintenance and “sprucing up” and well as technology updates, general rearranging and organizing, and items that quite simply need to be donated, sold or pitched.  This maintenance and cleanup need to be done prior to arranging for new occupants.  This is where you can help us.

The maintenance items include: touch up painting, replacing ceiling tiles, repairing holes in the walls, repairing a cabinet, installing surface covers for wires, etc.   These are tasks that don’t require professionals and can save us some money.  As you may be aware, the Region has a tight budget in 2020, especially with the loss of IRMS, and we have already had an unexpected expensive repair to the heating system.  With that as background, we have decided to have a workday at the Region office on Saturday, March 21 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.  I am looking for volunteers to give us a hand.  We can use people of all skill levels from organizing to repairing drywall and cabinets.  Please share this with your congregation.

The materials needed for the workday will be available.  If you have some tools that you believe would be helpful, please bring them. If you have questions, please contact me or Jackie at the Region office.

May God bless you,
Dale Stevens
Region President

Something NEW: Electronic Worship Options - Streaming

Worship resources from Mid-American Baptist Churches are becoming available online. A resource made available by First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines is live streaming of their Sunday morning worship service at 10 am Central Time. You can go to their church website and follow the links, or copy this link https://www.fbcdsm.org/live-stream.aspx    On the same webpage as their live stream are video archives of previous sermons or full worship services. Also on the left navigation tab of that web page is a link to audio recordings of the sermons for playback as podcasts.

These resources can be used for times when you are unable to be together with a congregation for worship. If you are aware of other Mid-American Baptist churches offering electronic worship resources, contact the Region office.

Rhythms of the Spirit

Contemplation is the spring of living water, and action is the stream that flows out from it to others; it is the same water.            - Thomas Merton

Rhythms of the Spirit
Do you struggle for balance between prayer and activity?
Do you long for a rhythm of the day that supports your spiritual journey?
More energy for compassion, peace and justice?

This conference, offered in a retreat style, provides a unique opportunity to explore the transformed life and discover contemplative practices that invite us into deeper engagement with the needs of the world.
We'll focus on your own spiritual practice providing time to develop solitude and silence, creating the expansive space necessary to welcome God's voice. If you desire spiritual direction, each conference will provide the opportunity for you to meet one-on-one with a spiritual companion.
