This Week's Reflection

Nostalgia

Dr. Tom Richard

We live on a fence, as it were, between nostalgic remembrances of the past and hopes for the future. There is a kind of sigh that comes when focusing on the present. We are not entirely comfortable with what has come to passed nor of what lies ahead. The word aiglatson (nostalgia spelled backwards) reminds us that there are trials and difficulties in the future that we have some say over how to shape.

Tom is celebrating his 47th year of ordination. In those years he has served churches in CA, CT, IA, ME, and MA. Twelve of those years were as the Executive for the Congregational Denomination (NACCC), and 15 as Senior Minister of First Congregational Church of Nantucket. Presently he is Interim Executive Director of Sustainable Nantucket. He and LeeAnne have six children and five grandchildren, and they have moved back to the Island permanently.

This Week in C-WE: Illuminate!
with Leyah Jensen & Sherlly Morocoima

Books, books, books! From books to paint in and books to write, children this week will get expert instruction in bookbinding. Because while beliefs and customs differ, books are universal. At it's origin, the heritage of telling our own unique story begins in the paintings of animals, events, and people that were left in Prehistoric caves. Luckily for us, today there's "carry-along" version known as the book. And this Sunday, kids will find out that books are any-thing but drab! Because "illuminated manuscripts" will come from our own two hands, as we pull out the gold foils; colorful paints; and each learn to make a feather quill pen. Bind with a sturdy cover, and your masterpiece is complete! What you choose to fill the pages of your own story with, is entirely up to you.
All the food at Coffee Hour is provided by our generous congregants, this week by those whose last names begin with G-M
