Business Ergonomics - it’s here!

Did you know that the way we work can have a huge impact on the success (or otherwise) of our business?

Do any of these sound familiar?

•    You hate clutter and get stressed if your workspace is untidy
•    You love clutter but occasionally it gets out of hand
•    You are easily distracted and jump from task to task
•    You worry about missing key dates such as tax deadlines or insurance renewals
•    You get aches and pains when you spend too long on your computer
•    You know there’s a better way to organise yourself, but you’re not sure how

We have the answer!

In this half-day workshop we’ll show you how to set up your workspace to suit your specific needs.

We’ll also share our top tips and strategies on how to organise your time and your technology.

I’m delighted to be collaborating with Alex Hughes of Auxilium Admin to bring you this unique workshop, designed to help you get and keep your business in order.

Alex is a former Foreign Exchange Dealer, Sales Executive and Administration Manager who now provides bespoke business support to a range of clients.

You will leave with:
  • Tools to help you set your working environment up in the way that suits you best
  • An understanding of how and why others work the way they do.
  • Hints and tips to help you work more effectively
  • A workbook that you can refer back to after the workshop
Places are limited, so book now to ensure your place.

What’s your investment?

When we talk about investment - we usually mean money.

For some people, ‘investment' means getting other people to put money into your business.

So when I ask people what they’ve invested in their business, they sometimes say:

“Oh, I didn’t need any investment.”

Wrong! Every business needs investment.

There are three things we can invest.

Time
Energy, and yes,
Money

When I’m helping clients on their pricing, I tell them to consider all three.

I ask them to think about how much time they’ve invested in developing their product or service.

This could be time spent studying, researching, testing, writing, networking and much more.

I ask them to think about how much energy they’ve invested.

This could be physical energy, emotional energy and, sometimes spiritual energy.

And finally I ask them to think about how much money they’ve invested.

This could be for study materials, training courses, raw materials, product development, IT, accommodation, networking- and much more.

In setting your prices, it’s really important that you value all three investments.

Otherwise you will be selling yourself short.

How do you stand out?

Last week I had a conversation with someone who is just starting out in business.

She’s not quite sure what she wants to do.

We bounced around a few ideas and then I said to her:

"Do something that will make you stand out."

As a coach, I’m only too well aware that there are dozens, hundreds, thousands of other coaches out there.

It means I have to work doubly hard to stand out.

When I go networking, there are some professions that are represented in nearly every group.

And generally, we can only use one of them!

When I meet someone who does something unique - it excites me.

I want to know more, and my brain is already pondering who I can introduce them to, or whether I need their offering myself.

Maybe you, like me, are already working in one of those well-represented professions.

It doesn't matter.

You can still exploit a niche, a specialist skill, or a different way of doing things.

So, whether you are starting a business, changing direction or looking for a way to become more successful in your current line of work, ask yourself this:

"What can I do that will make me stand out?"

Result happiness?

Remember the Charles Dickens quote?

“Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness.

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.”

One of my clients is making a change in her business.

It’s not a dramatic change, but it will have an impact on costs.

She wanted to run through the numbers with me, to make sure she hadn’t missed anything.

Of course, she could have done this with her accountant.

She chose to do it with me, because she wanted to explore how the change would affect her overall.

I was able to reassure her that she hadn’t missed anything - and that her plans made perfect sense.

The calculation she found most useful was this:

We identified how many clients she would need to see each week to cover her costs and achieve ‘result happiness’.

Of course she wants to earn more than this, but it gave her a base line to work up from.

How many clients or products do YOU need to see / sell each week, in order for you to achieve ‘result happiness’?
