Hello Friends!

Here is the Changing Your Team newsletter! The newsletter provides you with tips to improve your impact and satisfaction at work. Why did I title the edition: "25% of you will read this email"? Because, based on the previous editions, this is the minimum the mailing list reach.

To be honest, I am not sure if the number is accurate, I am not sure if I can consider "open" as "read". A lot of uncertainty in that domain. I had a conversation about mailing-lists with a friend who knows someone who runs a mailing list with more than 10000 subscribers.

The narrative around the big number of subscribers is that they form a community (not sure I would use that term in that case) of fans who are ready to buy products recommended by the person who runs the mailing list. The conclusion, from the perspective of my marketing friend, is that, if the number of subscribers is not big, and if it's not driving revenue, it is not worth the time.

The exchange made me realize that, if I was able to answer the first part, you are not 10000 who have subscribed to the list, I was not even able to say if you had read my book, or if you would recommend it, or if you would be interested in hearing about the upcoming one.

So, is it worth doing it?

My answer is still yes. And I recognize that I am biased. I love doing it. I love the interactions I have with people following each edition. Of course, I would love more subscribers, and more people interested in reading the books, but those are just by-products of the main objective: getting more opportunities of interactions, more opportunities to share information, experiences, expertise that help people.

I changed the structure of the newsletter a while back to provide information and pointers that could satisfy different preferences. Some of you seem to like the quote of the day and engage in discussion with me on that. Some of you like the latest post. Some like the videos, some like the podcasts and so on. I can see that based on the number of clicks (not necessarily accurate) and the interactions I have with people mainly over email.

My thinking in providing different options is that it will not only satisfy your different preferences, it will also provide more value to your friends and colleagues when you will share the email with them. Maybe what you find interesting is not what they will find interesting.

So let's start with the real content!

The quote of the day

The United States and Great Britain are two countries separated by a common language.
George Bernard Shaw

The latest podcasts

Two podcasts this time:

The latest conference

I had the pleasure to give the closing keynote of The Agile Day organized in Paris at the beginning of February. I will give the opening keynote of Agile Niort, on March 20, with the continuously changing talk: What is our real power.

A book worth reading

For this edition, the book is Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. The book is excellent. It is about our (in)ability to grasp what strangers are up to. Scary and essential.

An article worth reading

I already discussed the importance of Team Agreement and this article by David Wallance is worth the read: Prehistoric communication still rules the office, but it doesn’t have to. Not everything needs synchronous communication and a team has to define the different aspects of their way of working in their team agreement.

I enjoyed watching

I enjoyed watching Amy Edmondson in her TED talk about turning a group of strangers into a team.

If you find articles worth reading, podcasts worth listening, videos worth watching, please share them with the hashtag #ChangingYourTeam or via email: alexis@monville.com. Thank you!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
