Funding Opportunities

Call for LOIs - Secondary Data Analyses of Early Care & Education
The U.S. Office of Planning, Research & Evaluation seeks to award 20 grants of $80,000 to $105,000 each to family researchers conducting secondary analyses of data to address key questions relevant to federal early care and education programs, in particular the Child Care and Development Fund and Head Start/Early Head Start. Funding Available for Health Behavior Pilot/Feasibility Studies
The Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors will fund multiple health behavior-related pilot and feasibility studies up to $20,000/year. The funding is designed to provide initial project support for new investigators; allow for exploration of new and innovative directions for established investigators that represent a significant departure from ongoing research; and stimulate investigators from other areas to use their expertise for health behaviors research. The funding period is July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021. Click here for details.

Call for Proposals for 2020-21 ISCE Scholars Program
ISCE is accepting applications for its 2020-21 Scholars Program. This signature program provides faculty support for developing grant proposals in the social sciences, broadly defined, and consistent with ISCE’s four thematic areas and the University’s Transdisciplinary Communities. Proposed projects are expected to address critical individual and social concerns impacting the lives of people and places locally, nationally, or across the globe.The Scholars Program supports faculty to undertake work in a new or existing area, with the expectation that proposals developed through the program lead to external funding. Call for Letters of Intent related to K-12 Education Practices
The Braitmayer Foundation invites letters of intent from organizations that use innovative practices in K-12 education across the U.S. Of particular interest are curricular and school reform initiatives and/or those focused on the preparation of and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those that encourage people of high ability and diverse background to enter and remain in K-12 teaching. Grants of up to $35,000 will be awarded. Click here for details.

SPR Announces New Competitive Early Career Training Program
The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) is launching a new 2-year program to support early career prevention scientists with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in prevention science research. Early career investigators will receive advanced training on establishing a prevention science research agenda through a summer institute, webinars, and monthly mentor meetings. Scholars should be prepared to submit an NIH or NIH equivalent prevention science focused grant within 18 months of program commencement. Click here for details.

The Alzheimer's Association has announced it is accepting letters of intent for its June 2020 International Research Grant Program. Multiple opportunities are available, including those for early career researchers, those new to the field and grants to promote diversity among others. Click here for details.

Research on Health Effects of Air Pollution
The Health Effects Institute (HEI) is inviting applications for the Walter A. Rosenblith New Investigator Award. Grants of up to $500,000 over as many as three years will be awarded in support of research being conducted by early investigators on the health effects of air pollution. Research projects may be interdisciplinary in nature and span a range of scientific fields, including atmospheric science, epidemiology, exposure science, statistics, and toxicology. Facebook Research Announces RFP
This 2020 Facebook Research initiative seeks to foster innovation and deepen the company’s collaborations with academia. Interested researchers are encouraged to submit proposals that address challenges in applied statistics with direct applications for producing more effective insights and decisions for data scientists and researchers. The company is interested in a varied set of statistical topics, including experimentation, forecasting, predictive modeling, surveying, and ground truth modeling and sampling. Research to Improve Health of Older Adults in Long-Term Care Facilities
The Donaghue Foundation welcomes applications to its Another Look 2020 grant program which supports health-related research projects with the potential to improve the quality of care and life for adults age 65 or older who are long-term residents living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other congregate care facilities. National Endowment for the Arts Research Awards
The NEA is offering two funding opportunities through its Office of Research & Analysis:
  • Research Grants in the Arts: Funds research that investigates the value and/or impact of the arts, either as individual components of the U.S. arts ecology or as they interact with each other and/or with other domains of American life. Matching/cost share grants of $10,000 to $100,000 will be awarded.
  • NEA Research Labs: Funds transdisciplinary research teams grounded in the social and behavioral sciences, yielding empirical insights about the arts for the benefit of arts and non-arts sectors alike. Matching/cost share cooperative agreements of up to $150,000 will be awarded.

Conservation, Food and Health Foundation Grants
The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation (CFH) seeks to protect natural resources, improve the production and distribution of food, and promote public health in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. CFH helps build the capacity of organizations and coalitions with grants that support research or improve the learning and generation of local solutions to complex problems. CHF prefers to support projects that address under-funded issues and geographic areas. This is a limited submission opportunity. Call for ACS Health Policy Proposals
The American Cancer Society has issued a request for research on the role of health policy and health insurance in improving access to and the performance of cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment services. Proposals will be accepted for research projects focused on changes in national, state, and/or local policy and the response to those changes by healthcare systems, insurers, payers, communities, practices, and patients. Awards will be made for up to $200,000 per year for up to five years. Click here for details.

Call for Projects for the 2021 ACCelerate Festival
The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) in partnership with the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation is seeking exemplary transdisciplinary projects to represent Virginia Tech at the next ACCelerate Festival on April 9-11, 2021, at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Top Virginia Tech projects will be selected for ACC and Smithsonian review and evaluation in May 2020. Notifications of final acceptance for the festival will be in July 2020. Click here for details.

Scholarships Available to Attend ICPSR Summer Program!
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research offers rigorous, hands-on training in statistical techniques, research methodologies, and data analysis. ICPSR offers two four-week sessions as well as 3- to 5-day workshops. Registration is now open for its summer programs; a limited number of scholarships are also available.
