Cycle for Sight early bird registration ends March 1.

By Erin Horne, Communications Associate, LightHouse for the Blind

The first time I got back on a bike after 20 years since my last tandem ride when I was a teenager, I suddenly felt free again. I could go as fast as anyone else without having to slow down to decipher what was in front of me because my pilot was doing the seeing part. That left me to pump my legs and enjoy the breeze in my hair and the warm sun on my face. I signed up for the shortest distance in Cycle for Sight but as my coworker Jamey Gump and I were racing to a neck and neck finish, I called out to my pilot, "let’s go again!".

Don’t let the Early Bird registration for this year’s Cycle for Sight pass you by. Visit the Sign Up page before March 1 to sign up for a 15, 25 or 50-mile ride. You can save $10 on a Ride + Festival Pass and $25 on a VIP Ride + Festival Pass. Visit the LightHouse event page for details on how to sign up for Team LightHouse. Accommodation options for the night before are also available at Enchanted Hills Camp by contacting Tony Fletcher at afletcher@lighthouse-sf.org.

Youth Employment Series (YES) 2020 Summer Academy Applications Open

A group of previous YES Academy students stand together with the red lanterns of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the background
Our Youth Employment Series (YES Academy) is happening again this year for working-aged young people. Students take part in interactive learning opportunities as they participate in work-based learning experiences. They’ll meet life-long friends, mentors and supportive LightHouse staff. They will also have the opportunity to go to one of the biggest blindness conventions in the world. Not to mention, gaining skills needed to get hired.

If you or anyone you know is interested in joining us for an unforgettable summer, click here to apply

This transformative academy could not happen without the support of mentors and work-experience host organizations. If you or someone you know would be interested in serving in either of these roles, please contact Ann Wai-Yee Kwong, Transition Program Specialist, at youth@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7328.
