Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the inaugural post of CALC’s new  e-Connector our official totally electronic newsletter. Through these e-mails we hope to keep the members and friends of CALC informed  and connected in a timely manner. By way of example, information about time sensitive events, such as Pastor Bergh’s, can be disseminated at the speed of light. Interested members and friends can log onto internet based events and take action to register for and participate in events.

May God bless us all as we enter the Season of Lent. Last Sunday we climbed the Mountain of Transfiguration with Jesus, Peter, James and John. He was transfigured before them. The disciples encountered Moses and Elijah. It was an amazing experience for Peter. It was good for him to be there. He was given a foretaste of the bliss of heavenly life. He wanted to prolong his experience there. He wanted to build shelters for Jesus, Moses and Elijah.  However, that mountain-top experience had to come to an end.

Jesus, Peter, James and John had to climb down the mountain. Jesus had to go down to valley to be with us, to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God by word and deed. He had to ascend another mountain. He would climb up Golgotha. On that mountain he would suffer and give his life as a sacrifice for our sin and to satisfy God’s wrath aroused by our sin. On the third day Jesus was raised to eternal life.  With our sins paid for,  God’s wrath satisfied,  and Christ’s glorious resurrection, people living in the shadow of death have new hope.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus promises all who believe that in our last hour he will come to us, like Peter, James and John take our hands and take us up. Not up on a mountain for a foretaste of the world to come, but up to heaven, to life in the world to come.

In Christ
