We are open!
After so many weeks working behind the scenes and building huts, the New Zealand Festival of the Arts officially opened on Friday with a powerful powhiri on the Wellington waterfront at Te Wharewaka.
We took Roaming Hut along to kick off its festival roam. Over the weekend it travelled up to Porirua for the incredible Te Ata part of the NZ Festival. We were lucky enough to participate in an intimate conversion with Coco Solid and saw the incredible bone breaking skills of the Flexn crew direct from Brooklyn. Far out what a start to the greatest festival of our lives (so far)!
Roaming Hut has a huge schedule of sessions coming up at different locations around Wellington and Lower Hutt. See full list with event details below.
If you are in Wellington, pick one and come along! If not, invite a Wellington friend by forwarding them this email!

We've been so busy getting everything ready for Festival launch that we forgot to share how our Paekākāriki Hut installation went!
It was installed on the 11th of Feb, the day before the Urban Hut Club launch, with the help of Karl from Ngāti Haumia and Olivia Rose Wiles. Karl was a huge help as our tired brains were leaving things all over the show, he also gave the hut a karakia. His hapu are the original owners of the whenua the hut sits on. It was taken from them with the public works act for the US occupation and was never returned. In fact they still have a mortgage on their family home in Paekakariki. That's not cool in our books. They are gathering efforts to build a marae for Ngāti Haumia nearby. Read about that here so you can support them when need be. Thank you Karl and Levi.
Paekākāriki Hut was designed as a hut in progress. We built the framing of the hut and made a nice solid floor and weather proof case for the logbook and story by Apirana Taylor.
We have put the word out to the community to come along and clad sections of the hut so by the end of the festival it may have become a patchwork hut. We will add bits during the festival too so when you visit you may discover new building action! Get amongst it!

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Urban Hut Club launch in Paekakariki two weeks ago. This project has been such a massive community effort and we are grateful to so many of you. We've put a credits list on the app so everyone can see your contribution. Thank you, thank you!
In a surprising first for us we had the experience of being on Live TV on Monday morning! We set up Roaming Hut outside the Michel Fowler Centre and answered a couple of brief questions. It went pretty well. Judge for yourself by watching below.

We've had some more great new pieces come out. Mark Amery mentioned us on RNZ, and the wonderful team at Double Denim interviewed us. So chuffed to have such great media support!
That's all from us for now! We hope to see you at one of our Roaming Hut events!
With love,
