Donald G. Stratton (RCHS 1940), Pearl Harbor Attack Survivor and Webster County Native, to be honored in Red Cloud on Feb. 29th and March 2nd
We continue to be inspired by all of the outreach, interest, and support we've received in connection with Donald Stratton's passing. As a community, we are humbled and honored to be the final resting place for such an amazing man. Stratton's memoir, All the Gallant Men, was the first memoir written by a Pearl Harbor Survivor. It also happens to be this year's One Book One Nebraska selection. We strongly encourage you to read this work.
A military escort will accompany the transport of Stratton from his memorial service in Colorado Springs on Saturday, Feb. 29th to the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud. They will get to town around 9pm and the public is encouraged to show their support. The burial service will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery on Monday, March 2nd at 11am.
We are interested in hearing ideas about how to honor Stratton's memory. To learn more about Stratton's story, please watch the segment that aired on CBS This Morning back in 2016 (below), or read this article from the Omaha World-Herald, or this column by fellow Red Cloud native Matthew Hansen.
