SPRING IS IN THE AIR

It's been some time since I published a newsletter! January and February have been busy, in good ways. But, I wanted to "touch base," and share a few items for March. Spring brings growth and movement, and I encourage you to be mindful and practiced in all that you do in this season.
Kampo
COVID-19

Much is being made of COVID-19, but thus far the statistics make it about as dangerous as the normal "flu." 80% of people have zero to minor symptoms and 20% have moderate to severe. The death rate is 2% of confirmed cases, so the actual rate is much less.

The best thing for you to do, regardless, is practice good hygiene and keep your immune system healthy. Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, and do your best not to touch your face. Manage well your Base4Heath© (nutrition, exercise, sleep and meditation), receive bodywork regularly, and take Kampo (pictured) when prescribed.
A Self-Sotai Exercise
MARCH EXERCISE WORKSHOPS
Tuesday, March 10th and 24th, 3:30-5:30p

I ran one hour movement classes on Tuesdays in January and February, but in March I'm "moving" back to the workshop format.

On Tuesday, March 10th, 3:30-5:30p, we'll perform Self-Sotai exercises and two moves of Qigong. The Self-Sotai helps you move away from pain and into alignment, while the Qigong helps you build energy.

On Tuesday, March 24th, 3:30-5:30p, we'll perform the the 10 Basic Meridian Exercises of Zen Shiatsu and the 5 Tibetan Rites. The Meridian Exercises are gentle stretches that keep your energy and blood flowing, while the 5 Tibetans are an active, strengthening yoga set.

Both of these events are about learning sets of exercises, then practicing consistently at home.

$50 each, sign up and pay here - https://shiatsu-works-llc.square.site - at least one day in advance. If no one does so, I may assume no one will be attending that particular event and I may not be at the studio. No refunds for student no shows.

Of course, I also teach all the sets of exercises one-on-one! Contact me to schedule.
Zazen
MARCH COMMUNITY ZEN MEDITATION
Wednesday 3/4, 3/11, and 3/25 from 5-6p

I continue to provide space for all to practice awareness. We begin with brief instruction, then do 20 minutes of Zazen (sitting meditation focused on the breath), 5 minutes of Kinhin (walking meditation), and another 20 minutes of Zazen, concluding with a short discussion.

This is simple and profound, well-rooted practice, unlike much of the guided, sound, and other meditation offerings you may have come across. Be prepared to face yourself! By studying yourself, you get to know yourself. Once you know yourself, you can get "yourself" out of the way.

Free, or donation; donation is to cover space and supplies, whatever you're moved to give; this is a community service, all are welcome, no one is turned away.

Please indicate your attendance at least a day prior to the event, so I know who's coming. Thanks!
