The Jewish holiday of Purim begins on March 9th. The Purim story, found in the Book of Esther, commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in the fourth century BCE and celebrates Queens Vashti and Esther, the feminist heroes who ensured our survival.
To mark this joyous time, Jewish communities traditionally feast and drink, give gifts and charity, and dress in costume (likely the reason Purim has been referred to as "the Jewish Halloween")! This year at the Farm, we are celebrating Purim by:
Hosting Purim on the Farm in partnership with Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School. Families with children ages 3-10 are invited for a face-painting, grogger-making, hamentaschen cookie-eating good time!
Delivering Mishloach Manot (Purim baskets) to our Farm Founders Circle Members. These baskets remind us to care for others in our community. We are grateful to our generous donors whose generosity makes a direct impact in the community!
Attending the Make Some Noise event at The Hive. This Women's Tell-All is based on the themes of Purim and brings the Purim women's voices to life in modern day.
We invite you to join us in this celebration and wish you a chag sameach (happy holiday)!
Educational Expansion
We are excited to announce new STEM-based Farm curriculum for grades K-8 and expanded curriculum for high school students!
Topics include water conservation, healthy eating, compost, food justice, and plant parts, and new volunteer opportunities are available to middle and high school classes. Several of these lessons will be held in our Food Forest, an idyllic example of a regenerative and ecologically-focused agricultural setting, and in our brand new indoor-outdoor Farm STEM Science Lab.
Please join us in welcoming the newest additions to our growing Farm Team:
Assistant Farm Educators Joleyne Lambert, Hannah Gruen, Marisol Abbott, Courtney Preis, and Ashly Tamayo (not pictured) will be supporting School and Group Visits, Farm Camp, and other events.
Bruchim Habaim (welcome) to our Farm mishpachah (family)!
Farm Stand Reno Our Farm Stand is the face of our Farm and is getting a face lift! Shout out to Jason Han of New Urban West, Inc. and Naylor Solar Specialists for their generous contributions to this project.
