The PNLT's volunteer committees meet monthly on the last Wednesday of the month. Each committee is made up of a group of community members who work together to further the goals of PNLT. Participation is open to all members and we invite you to join us!

MEETING THIS WEEK:

Community Engagement & Education Committee (CEE): This committee works to reach out to and spread the idea of community land trust to the wider community members. The Committee develops educational materials and events and organizes community engagement and community-based participatory planning activities to promote greater community participation.

Governance Committee: This committee’s primary responsibility is organizational development from the legal and governance perspective. The committee works on building a community based and democratic governance model for Parkdale context, while also developing policies and bylaws that reflect the principles of diversity, equity, and democracy.

Fundraising Committee (Project Based): This subcommittee focuses on fundraising – identifying potential funding opportunities, organizing donor drives and creating great fundraising events.

NOT MEETING THIS WEEK:

Acquisition & Due Diligence Committee (Invite only): The PNLT Acquisitions Committee leads the planning of acquisitions of real property. The Acquisitions Committee includes a Negotiations & Due Diligence subcommittee, which undertakes formal negotiations and due diligence reviews. Due to the confidential nature of much of the work, this committee currently operates on an invite-only basis. If you are interested in joining this committee please contact joshuabarndt@pnlt.ca.

Equity Committee: The Equity Committee works to encourage all different kinds of people (with different perspectives and different experiences) to join the Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust as members; to make sure that everyone is treated fairly; and to make sure that every member understands how things work, has a voice and is able to meaningfully participate in PNLT activities. To join this committee please contact:  APortillo@parc.on.ca

Special thanks to Ontario Trillium Foundation for generous support for this project.

PRESERVE & PROTECT AFFORDABLE HOUSING
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN 2020

The Land Trust is taking concrete action to preserve affordable housing! To do this we need your support. Contribute today.

In 2019 community members contributed $41,000 to the Preserve and Protect Fund. With this support, the Land Trust successfully acquired a rental apartment building on Maynard Avenue, securing 15 units of permanently affordable housing!

In 2020 we need to raise $200,000 through a historic Capital Campaign to enable the Land Trust hopes to acquire 1-3 more apartment buildings. Imagine having more permanently affordable housing in our community! Together we can preserve Parkdale and protect our neighbours.

The most significant factor in our ability to acquire property is the ability to act quickly. Once the property is secure, we can access other support including government grants and corporate donations to complete the purchase and develop the property according to Parkdale's needs. But without this Preserve and Protect Fund, we risk losing more housing. This has already happened with many properties that would have been incredible opportunities had we been able to move quickly.

Please support Parkdale's Neighbourhood Land Trust! Contribute today!
