Junior Round-up of Sunday Fixture Results

It was a busy day at GHC on Sunday - in the morning we hosted 16 teams in the Surrey HA Boys Under 12 Plate competition.

A good time was had by all and some great hockey played by these development teams. Addiscombe got the better of Oxted on penalty flicks in the Final with Spencer coming third.

Our Guildford B and C teams were competing against many clubs' A and B teams, and they did really well in some very close matches. The Cs just missed out getting to quarterfinals on goal difference in their group. The Ds got to quarterfinals but got knocked out there.

Many, many thanks to Jon and Claire Haines for leading our Boys Under 12 age group and helping organise the Plate competition.

It's great to host these end of season events - GHC are also hosting the Girls Under 12 Plate, the Boys Under 16 England Hockey Tier 1 Area Finals and the Girls Under 16 and 18 League Finals Day over the next three weeks. We hope to add a few more to that as well as we aim to qualify for more regional play-offs.

A huge thanks to Jeremy Holt who works tirelessly behind the scenes to arrange and re-arrange the massive task of getting so many juniors and so many competitions playing every week!

In other Junior results news, the Girls Under 16 A team won their knock-out match against Epsom to qualify for League Finals Day! (match report below).

The Boys Under 16 A team won convincingly their Premier League against Surbiton who are topping the league - well done boys!

The Girls U14 A team also won their Premier League match - the win over Reading means that with one match still to play they have qualified for League Finals Day!

The Girls U14 C team also won, bringing them to second place in their league - super well done, girls!

And the Boys U14 A team won their Premier League match by a landslide solidifying their second place standing in the table and qualifying them also for League Finals Day.

Wow - what a Sunday for the juniors!

Surrey Youth Games 2020

GHC will be running the hockey sessions for SYG 2020 for both Waverley and Guildford Boroughs!

For those unfamiliar with the games, the objective is to get children ages 6 to 16 to try a new sport.

8 weeks of coaching sessions are free (!) and then there is a big inter-borough tournament/event on 13-14 June at the Surrey Sports Park.

The sessions start in April and will run on a Wednesday evening - tell your friends who don't (yet) play hockey.

For more information and to sign up, see the Surrey Youth Games webpage.

GHC Director of Hockey, Dan Fox, met with the Young Ambassadors who will be helping run the games to talk about his experience playing hockey at the Olympics.

See the details here in our Club News article.

A great community effort to grow sport and in particular, our sport

If anyone would like to help fund/sponsor our SYG 2020 Coaching, please get in touch with Dan.

COVID-19 Advice

We are all no doubt aware that the novel coronavirus situation is changing rapidly.

Please pay close attention to the public health advice. Self-isolate or call 111 as advised...

Surrey Hockey Association circulated the latest advice from the Department for Education and Public Health England - here is what they say:

If you have travelled to an affected area or been in contact with someone from an affected area, heed the advice.

Better safe than sorry - stay home if the advice says you should!

Final First Aid Course of the 2019/20 Season

Mon 2 - Tue 3 March

Please note that the dates for our final First Aid course before the end of the league season have changed and are now:

Monday and Tuesday 2 & 3 February 2020

Each GHC team should have two qualified First Aiders.

If you will help with First Aid at GHC, the club pays 2/3 of the cost of the course (£40 cost to participants, the club plays the other 2/3). This is a two-evening course that can also be used in your workplace. Certificate is valid 3 years.

Non-GHC friends also welcome - cost of the course is £120.

Please book with AMJ directly; email Angie or Adrian:

Angela Jenkinson

Adrian Jenkinson

Or contact GHC CWO Michelle Fussell with any questions.
New First Aid Kits!

If you played at home last weekend you might have noticed the new First Aid kits for our home pitches.

Please note that there is a RED First Aid kit bag for each pitch - labelled "Blue" or "Sand". (Please don't take the green ones - which need to stay where they are on the wall.)

The team playing the first match of the day needs to collect the kit from the entrance to the bar (upstairs in the clubhouse) and take it to the pitch,

The last team to play on either pitch must return the kit to the bar at the end of the day's matches.

Please remember to complete an injury report for each injury. England Hockey collect these - the more data the better as they continue to monitor the sport along with the FIH and other NGB's for the safety of all.

Please hand in reports to Michelle Fussell or the First Aid room (first door on the left as you enter the clubhouse from outside.)

A special Thank You to Hartington Financial Consultancy Ltd whose generous sponsorship helped us replace the green First Aid boxes that had broken and update with fresh supplies.

Also, Thank You to Michelle Fussell for acquiring and organising the new bags and supplies!
