The phrase ‘one in a million’ is supposed to be a good thing, right?
Last week, a report came out that said that Apple Podcasts had cleared the 900,000 show hurdle. To be fair, there are a massive number of people that realized that podcasting was hard to do and punted after one episode. (I predicted earlier this year that Apple would clear out all that deadwood this year.)
Those 900,000 podcasts have produced over 27 million episodes. That’s a bit insane.

Write Well of Me
The Skimmer’s Hook: Do you read obituaries? Imagine writing them for a living.
Listen if you like: Mini-biographies, NYT, The Moth
This newsletter should not be life or death for anyone. But what if your job was to write about dead people?
This Farewelling episode is an interview with Neil Genzlinger, the New York Times Obituary writer who has written hundreds of obituaries. As it turns out, it's not hard just because he's dealing with death all the time and thinking about his own mortality but because there's a lot of fact-checking to be done.
So how does one get such a job? What makes a good obituary? How many are queued up, waiting for those people to die? And will it help win you a Moth contest? That answer is yes times 3.
You can read one of Neil's most recent obituaries, written about Trader Joe Coulombe, who passed away last week.

Home Is Where The Podcast Is
The Skimmer’s Hook: Do you live in another country? Do they even want you there?
Listen if you like: Living In Other Places, Italian, Britain
Have you ever lived abroad? Did you decide to stay? What do you call home? This newsletter has lots of questions!
This unique little podcast is one person’s life of loving his adopted country that doesn’t love him back. Yet. He’s an Italian living in Britain and wants to stay there but his application to stay has been rejected.
Unfortunately, this podcast is very new. I say unfortunately because the episodes are very short and there’s only four of them so far. (I need more and hate waiting!) So you can binge them all in the time it takes to learn how to say ‘unsettled’ in Brexit.
Podcast: Britalian - Unsettled (5 mins)

Fraud
The Skimmer’s Hook: Do you feel like you’re a total fake? Here’s a little help.
Listen if you like: TED, Syndromes
If you ask my friend Chris, he will tell you I suffer from a double case of imposter syndrome. He’s not a doctor but I’m not sure I would argue with him because it’s pretty severe.
I’m not sure if one can ever get over it but perhaps there are ways for some of us to use it to our advantage.
What do you think? (That’s just a cheap way of inserting another question into this newsletter.)
Podcast: TED Talks Business - How you can use imposter syndrome to your benefit (14 mins)

Extra Hot Sauce
This podcast hasn’t been released yet but surely it took inspiration from The Office Ladies. Two cast-mates from The Sopranos are Talking Sopranos. Isn’t that a no-no in the mafia world?
I've decided to test my readership with a blog entry about templates for Podweek 9 of my journal. If that doesn't feel like click-bait, I'm not sure what else to do.
