Hello <<First Name>>,

Congratulations and welcome to the CA community!

Thanks for taking the time to read a little about the boarding community from two CA students who thoroughly love living here. We are Navi and Ashley, the Head and Vice Head of Boarders at Concord Academy and members of the Class of 2020. Our job is to work with Boarding Council, a passionate group of eight student heads of house who work hard making sure all students find their comfort zone at CA. We would like to share with you how and why each of us decided to be boarding students and why we love living and learning at CA.

I’m Navi and I’m from Essex County, New Jersey! Coming in my first year I was excited but also very nervous about what I was getting myself into. I was a very shy person so of course I was worried about making friends. I soon realized that I had nothing to fear because everyone was so willing to talk to me. I quickly became friends with the people in my grade, and also people who were older than I was. Everyone in the houses were so nice to me and would always help me figure out something when I was confused. Through these little acts of kindness I realized that CA was the place for me. During my four years as a boarder, I’ve enjoyed eating ramen at midnight with my best friends, hanging out with house faculty in the common rooms and exploring Concord and Boston on weekend boarding trips. I found a home here with all of my friends and have even developed great relationships with their families. The closer I get to graduating the more I realize just how much this place has meant to me, and I know that I will forever hold these memories close to my heart forever.

I’m Ashley and I'm from New York! Coming in as a first year student I was not sure if this school would be the right fit for me. I soon found out that being a member of the boarding community would teach me that I belong here as much as the next person. If it wasn't for the boarding community I wouldn’t have met some of the people that I consider family today. Being a boarder has changed my life in so many ways. I have had the opportunity to bond with people from all over the world and with so many different perspectives, and they have all enriched my education and experience. Now that I am a senior, I find it funny how nervous I was in my first year at CA because this community has become like a second home for me. Some of my favorite memories include watching movies with friends on the weekends, playing games in Bradford common room, going on coffee runs during the weekends with my friends in our pajamas, and just meeting some of the most incredible people. I am so grateful to call CA my second home and am excited for you to join our community as well.

We live in renovated historic homes along Main Street in downtown Concord. Each student house has a newly renovated common room with a full kitchen. Twenty-two to twenty-nine students live in each house, and the small size allows us to form close relationships with our housemates and house faculty. Students of all ages and with diverse backgrounds and interests live in each house. The mentorship between all grades is truly remarkable and something very special to the CA boarding community.

We always feel safe and enjoy living in a small town with great restaurants, coffee shops, and a supermarket. All are within walking distance of campus, as is the commuter train, which makes it easy to visit the big city lights of Boston and to take advantage of all it has to offer.

Our school population is about 40 percent boarders and 60 percent day students, and we love being at a school with both boarding and day students. We get to leave campus for the occasional home-cooked meal and sleepover at our day student friends’ houses, and day students stay on campus late for dinner, clubs, and study groups on weeknights or spend the night in a boarding house on weekends.

CA offers a lot of weekend activities, such as paintball, laser tag, trips to movies, restaurants, and plays in Boston. These activities involve boarding and day students, and friendships come so easily because day and boarding students are participating together. At the same time, boarders have special traditions that day students don’t always experience, such as boarding community dinners, a once-a-month formal event that brings the entire residential community together, and house competitions, where boarding houses compete against each other for prizes in things like pie-eating, lip sync battles, and other fun activities. By living with each other, boarders discover friendships that are beyond compare.

Boarding at CA surpasses anything either of us imagined before enrolling; it has helped us mature into people prepared to engage and change the world.

We’d love for you to be a part of our second home! Good luck with your decision!

Best wishes,
