OPIRG Carleton (Ontario Public Interest Research Group) is a student-led, student-funded non-profit based at Carleton University. We aim to research, educate and provide action on social and environmental justice using a non-hierarchical and consensus based space for students to organize.

A working group is an open collective of individuals that choose to work on a specific issue or campaign. OPIRG Carleton supports several working groups including Anakbayan Ottawa, Books 2 Prisoners, Herongate Tenant Coalition, Students Against Israeli Apartheid, The Leveller, and Yoga Unity. Ask us if you want to learn more or join a working group!

Books 2 Prisoners: Monthly Meetings

Books to Prisoners sends free books to prisoners across Canada and the US, and responds to letters from prisoners. As an abolitionist group, they believe that education and human contact are important to maintain mental health while incarcerated.
B2P meets on the second Wednesday of every month. We are always looking for volunteers so contact us if you would like to join.

Tune into OPIRG Roots Radio on CKCU FM 93.1 every other Tuesday from 12-1 PM.

Still Rising

Come through SAW Gallery (67 Nicholas Street) on Thursday, February 27 for two workshops and a reception celebrating Black brilliance and resilience while recognizing that our community is made up of individuals who face personal and systemic barriers to preserving their own wellbeing on a daily basis.

Still Rising is a two-part event that intends on celebrating the resilience of Ottawa's Black community while recognizing that needing to be resilient is exhausting.
Please keep in mind that while the reception is open to all members of the community, workshops are a closed space for Black, African, and Caribbean folks to share, learn, and heal.

AIR FORCE BLACKS: Photography Exhibit

Air Force Blacks Photography Exhibit is a FREE event taking place on Saturday, February 29 from 6-11 p.m. at SAW Gallery (67 Nicholas Street).

This photography exhibit is created by Liz Clarke and powered by Freedx, in-partnership with Youth Ottawa and RBC Bluesfest.

Film Fundraiser: Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance

Swing by Carleton University's Canal Building (Room 2202) on Tuesday, March 3 from 6-9 p.m. for a film fundraiser featuring Obomsawin's film and a discussion on the chilling parallels between the standoff in Oka and the recent invasion on Wet'suwet'en territory. Free veggie food will be provided by the Garden Spot Collective! 

Donation: Pay What You Can (PWYC - no one will be turned away for lack of funds). All proceeds will go to front line land defenders.
