March 12: Native Pollinators Presentation & Mason Bee Lodge Workshop

Did you know that Colorado has over 900 species of bees? The honey bee is just one of those species. So what’s all the BUZZ? Humans depend on pollinators for about 1/3rd of our diet, with the most nutritious part being vegetables, fruits and nuts. Many of these staples are pollinated by native bees! However, bees and other pollinator populations around the world are declining. Lisa Mason, Horticulture Agent for CSU Extension in Arapahoe County since 2018, will talk about pollinator biology including native bees, how to recognize native bees, how to develop pollinator habitat, the facts on stinging insects and how to support our pollinators locally.  Following the presentation, "make & take" your own Mason Bee Lodge.

Let's talk about our Native Pollinators...!
Clear Creek's delegation to the Landscaping with Colorado Native Plants Conference
Uchi, Linda, Peech, Nancy, and Chris attended the Landscaping with Native Plants Conference this weekend. They reported back that it was a great conference and "increased our knowledge of insect decline, habitat gardening, seed collection & germination, Japanese beetle infestation, integrated pest management, and gave us lots of fantastic ideas for gardening with natives!"
- We're excited about our native gardening programs this year including our March 12th Native Pollinator Presentation and Mountain Bee Lodge Workshop as well as our second annual Native Plant Sale on June 25th.
- Chris is also formulating a high elevation native plant seed mix to attract native pollinators!
- We'll be doing lots of Pollinator Protector gardening with Clear Creek students this spring and summer! Watch us on social media or subscribe to our e-newsletter for updates.
