In our previous update, we talked about how establishing a culture of reading was a priority for us this year, so it was perfect timing that we celebrated World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) in February. We have enjoyed celebrating this day for the past few years, and this year was no exception. We took this even to as many schools and communities as we could.

A key part of our mentoring program is to make sure that we stay in touch with both the Bahinis (the girls we work with) and their families. We do this through a combination of home and school visits. We want to make sure that they are getting the right level of support both at home and school because education doesn't just happen inside school walls.

Speaking of visits, members of the Rukmini Foundation team from the US were able to visit with various schools, communities and also with the foundation team in Nepal. This was a great opportunity to see the outcomes in person, discuss new ideas and to share knowledge with each other.

Our Special guest, Ms. Anita Bhandari Basnet said that she always wanted to do things that she was not "supposed" to be able to do. Things like being a girl who rides a motorcycle, or choosing at what age she wanted to get married. She also set other goals like obtaining at least one Master's Degree. She told the group that she not only set these goals, but also created a plan for how to achieve them, and she did not let anything stand in her way. Her message of dedication and resilience inspired the audience. We are very grateful for Anita Didi sharing her personal story with us to inspire more girls to set goals for themselves.
