Hi All

After 4 years and 40+ newsletters it's time for me to pass the batten over to the next budding editor to put their touch on our newsletter.  I thank Simon Slater for putting up his hand and offering to take on the role as Editor.  Please join me in thanking Simon when you see him next.

I'd like to thank a few people that helped out a lot over my tenure.  Obviously Wayne and Rob being the two Presidents during my time who have given me the support needed to be successful, Barry Holland for all the Barry's Bits and Motorcycle Safety articles, Neville Dodds for all the hilarious jokes and cartoons, Sandra Melville from Cycle Spot Group and Monique Haines from ProRider for getting me their ads and articles on time every time and all the contributors on our Facebook page where I shamelessly stole photos and stories from.  I'd also like to thank the Sheriff for not fining me for the F'ups I made in the newsletter over the years, of which there were many.  You have all made my job a lot easier to do and I thank you.

While I'm on my soapbox I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the committee and all the volunteers in the club.  A club simply wouldn't exist if not for these people.  Thank You.

This is a great segway into the AGM we have coming up on 5 April.  All positions are open so please take the time to nominate your fellow club mates for positions. The last day for nominations is Wednesday 6 March 2020 so you need to act now.  The downloadable AGM Nomination form is below in the red box.  Go on do it today.

Out Cruising
5 Feb - Charlie Tee

Ten riders today, and an eleventh joined us at Wellsford. Harry Handley led us to Mangawhai Heads via SH16, Whangipo Valley Road, Waiteitei Road, and Mangawhai Road. After lunch we broke into smaller groups riding home. I led a group of four back along School Road, Tomarata Valley Road and Matakana Valley Road. A very pleasant day riding, and much cooler temperatures than yesterday.
12 Feb - Michael Davies

Wednesday old folks rest stop.. Port Albert wiggley ride.. Excellent TEC thanks Pip. Getting dry up here Charlie what's south like..?

16 Feb - Annette Bissett

The ride to Waiomu never disappoints, beautiful coastal roads were appreciated by new riders Paul and Ness, impressive fishy dish for lunch at Wayne's fav cafe, old friends Wayne and Janette caught up with us there. Peter had a little bike fault along the way, just a loose terminal then TEC Rob needed a little shove in the rear end to get going again, lol. I've had to do that a few times now. Anyway all 9 of us on 7 bikes had another super day of riding, summer is great 😃🏍🤗 See you next time 😉

25 Feb - Charlie Tee

Twelve riders out on a lovely day. Not too hot today. Ole Falkenhaug led us to Hopin Stopin in Taupiri via Ruawaro and the best backroads of the Waikato.

At Ruawaro, my GSX1250 'Dobbin' turned over 150,000 km. I'll buy you something nice Dobbin!

27 Feb - Charlie Tee

Thirteen riders today, and my suggestion to have a picnic at Matheson Bay was readily accepted. I took the group over back roads to Silverdale, then across Wainui Road, Upper Orewa Road and Weranui Road to a rendezvous at Waiwera. The only problem was that I only had three other riders still with me at the rendezvous. After about ten minutes I asked one rider to go back and round up the corner markers, but as he headed off the remaining riders turned up. Some riders had missed a corner marker at Silverdale, but they realised their mistake and returned, and all the subsequent corner markers held their positions for a long time so that the ride could re-establish itself. Well done to all of them.

From Waiwera, we headed north to Warkworth where we bought lunch at a bakery, then headed through Matakana towards Leigh, turning off on Matheson Bay Road. We had our picnic on the hill south of the bay to get the lovely sea views.

Thanks to Pip for being TEC.

It seems that many mid-week riding groups in Ulysses have an informal name, such as the Retreads, or their ride has a name such as the Zimmer Frame ride. It was suggested to me a couple of years ago that we should adopt a name, but it takes a while for my brain to come up with an idea, so it was only today that I proposed a name to the group. It was agreed that we will refer to ourselves as the "Ok Boomers"!

Midweek Wednesday Rides (check out NH Ulysses facebook page for details.)
Are you free to ride Midweek?
Why not join fellow Ulyssians on Wednesday's

Departing Warehouse covered carpark in Albany at 10.00am
Destination decided on the day.
These rides are proving very popular.
Barry Holland, John Heebink and Mike Davies run the "Twists and Turns" low speed manoeuvring sessions that Ulysses set up some years ago.

They are run on the first Saturday of the month at  Kelston Girls High School, 1 Archibald Rd, Kelston, West Auckland 0602.

All North Harbour members are invited to attend.
It’s a great opportunity to practice all those key low speed skills in a safe, supportive environment.  For instance when did you last practice an emergency stop?  Plenty of skilled riders attend to help with technique and encouragement and they are not judgemental.  Better to practice where there are people to help pick the bike up if you lay it down!
The school entrance is first on your right as you turn off Great North Road into Archibald Road:

Cheers
Barry
