Library Legislative Day Recap

It was a cool sunny day in Madison instead of the usual snow and ice for Library Legislative Day. WLA held a briefing session for attendees prior to meeting with the legislators. Carolyn Standord Tayor, State Superintendent of Public Instruction and Mandela Barnes, Lieutenant Governor spoke in support of Wisconsin libraries and their library experiences. The legislative panel assured attendees that it means something to legislators when people come to Madison to meet with them and also how important our library stories are. A brief video of library patrons talking about what the library means to them has been put together to share with legislators. Hopefully next year IFLS Library system will have a video to share with our legislators.

Barbara Kreuger (Deer Park) and Karen Furo-Bonnstetter (Woodville) met with State Senator Patty Schachtner in her office. We shared what our libraries were doing and how St. Croix County Libraries are working together. We highlighted the county support of the Wi-Fi Hotspots and the continued need for broadband in rural areas. Later we met with Rep. Rob Stafsholt’s staff member.  Again we talked about what our libraries are busy doing and the need for better broadband in rural areas.
