The Haven is so lucky to have such an amazing group of amazing volunteers who are committed to supporting the mission of The Haven. Either by donating their time or donating much-needed items, volunteers have a profound impact on our agency. Without the hard work of our team of volunteers, we wouldn't be able to provide a variety of services to individuals impacted by intimate partner violence and sexual violence.

After putting out a call to action for donations for our youth programming, several volunteers quickly gathered the items needed. Some of these items were used to give Valentine's Day gifts to the youths at the shelter. Volunteers from Transitions Adult Day Support assembled the valentines. The youths were extremely appreciative of the gifts and The Haven would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped.

If you would like to learn more about how to support the youth programming at The Haven please contact Brittany Clayborne at brittany.clayborne@havenshelter.org.

Get Involved

In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, The Haven will be working with volunteers and community partners to help with our garden bed project at our shelter. Haven staff members, volunteers, and program participants worked together to plant different flowers, vegetables, and fruits in the garden beds. The garden beds will be used as a source of nutrition for program participants as well as used during our summer camp for youths at the shelter. For this project we could use donations for the following:
  • Yellow Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Flowers (For pollination)
  • Peppers
  • Onions
  • Herbs
  • Small Tomatoes (cherry, sungold, purple, etc)
  • Potatoes
  • Cabbage
  • Collards
  • Gardening Soil
  • Gardening Shears
  • Gardening Gloves Kids
  • Gardening Gloves Adults
  • Rake
  • Small Shovel
  • Gardening Trowel
These items can be dropped off at our administrative office between April 13th-17th. If you are interested in donating any of these items for our garden bed project, please contact Brittany Clayborne at brittany.clayborne@havenshelter.org
Did you know the proceeds from The Haven directly support the services that The Haven provides? You can help us make a difference by volunteering at our Shoppe for Haven's Sake Thrift Shop. We could use volunteers to help sort and process donations at our Thrift Store. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Brittany Clayborne at (804)333-1099.
The Haven is in need of volunteers who are willing to assist in providing meals such as spaghetti, pizza, fried chicken, tacos, fries, chili, or other kid-friendly foods plus a veggie side dish for approximately 15 program participants on Monday evenings. (For example, food for 15 individuals could look like 2 large pans of spaghetti and a salad.)

These meals support the women and children who attend the support groups facilitated by Haven staff. If you have additional questions or would like to support our meal program please contact Brittany Clayborne at (804)333-1099.
The Haven is looking for more volunteers!

Volunteers are essential to accomplish our mission of preventing and eliminating all types of sexual and intimate partner violence within the Northern Neck and Essex County. The Haven could not provide free, vital services to individuals who have experienced violence without the hard work and effort of volunteers!

Not only do our volunteers assist us with completing everyday tasks such as childcare, shelter maintenance, data input, mailings, and processing donations, but their hours are used to meet match requirements of our state and federal grants. We could use more volunteers in the following areas:
  • Sorting, tagging, and displaying donations at our Shoppe for Haven's Sake Thrift Store;
  • Supporting community outreach and fundraising activities by tabling at either the Heathsville or Irvington Farmers Market;
  • Helping us keep our shelter and administrative office clean and tidy;
  • Engaging children from various backgrounds in fun and engaging crafts and activities.
To learn more about becoming a volunteer for The Haven or if you would like a representative of The Haven to talk to your organization about volunteer opportunities, contact Brittany Clayborne at 804-333-1099 or visit havenshelter.org/volunteer.
