Meet the Maker: Martin Smith
Gallery walk and talk
Saturday 7 March, 11.00am
“Something like the heart machine
has dozens of different pieces and is entirely
handmade. I know some people think that I
buy the components in and it’s just a matter
of assembly, but honestly it’s not. Every nut,
every bolt is made from scratch.”

More than Medication
Saturday 14 March, 2pm – 3.15pm
Textile artist Susie Freeman in conversation
with curator Mary La Trobe-Bateman.
The work is dominated by the use of active
pharmaceuticals, both pills and capsules, which
are incorporated into dramatic fabrics by a
process known as pocket knitting. These fabrics
are then made into clothing and accessories,
making their individual messages easier to ‘read’.
