February 2020 Updates

Hello, Forward Wayne County Partners!

Our team worked hard to bring some projects forward this month and we wanted to share this good news with you. Please continue to support the endeavors that speak to you and share this information with friends, family, and colleagues.

Wayne County Voices: 2020 Survey

Have you taken our Community Survey? We're developing a countywide plan to create more vibrant, thriving, and forward-thinking communities. We need YOU - and your family, your neighbors, coworkers, friends, that really nice lady at the gas station, etc. - to tell us how to get there.

What do you love about your community and how could it improve? What have you experienced when trying to find a job, childcare, or things to do? How can Wayne County grow and plan for the future while retaining our historical charm and small town feel?

Take our survey HERE and share the link!
2020 Spring Leadership Forum

Join us for the 2020 Spring Leadership Forum on April 17 - and share this will anyone you think might benefit from attending. Come prepared to network, learn about what was accomplished in 2019, and what work Forward Wayne County will be focused on in 2020. A light breakfast will be served. This event is free to attend, but we do need you to register so that we get an accurate headcount.

The Employability Coalition

We have officially formed the Employability Coalition, which is a collaborative effort with our local high schools, colleges, employers, Chamber of Commerce, EDC, and other to move the dial forward on connecting our residents to opportunities and developing the talent we currently have. The Coalition has agreed to work toward becoming part of a 21st Century Talent Region.

21st Century Talent Regions use a systems approach to attract, develop, and connect Hoosier talent - and everyone benefits:

  • Students are able to identify a career and education path best suited to them earlier and gain credentials for employment.
  • Educators get the opportunity to further align teaching with the needs of the community.
  • Adult workers are able to transition more easily to new careers if impacted by technology, displacement, or other circumstances.
  • Businesses access the talent they need to grow.
  • Community leaders are able to invest resources to develop, attract, connect, and retain talent.

Bringing Communities Together

Wayne County Foundation’s Executive Director, Rebecca Gilliam, and Forward Wayne County brought Cambridge City, Centerville, Hagerstown, Fountain City, and Richmond together to talk about collaboration on quality of place initiatives. This meeting was a great opportunity for each community to hear about other projects in the county. At the meeting, Rebecca shared a variety of grant opportunities for the county to pursue.

Meetings between cities can help us work better together by leveraging information and each other's strengths to collectively tackle our toughest challenges. We're thrilled to see this happening among our communities.
