Welcome to 3 Point Thursday! 

Each week I'll send you the three most compelling ideas, facts, studies and/or products related to nutrition, health and wellness that I have to share.

 
  • Antidepressants vs Exercise
Studies show that aerobic exercise can be as effective as anti-depressants in treating mild to moderate depression - and with side effects like improved health and weight management! 

In countries such as Australia, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, official guidelines include exercise as a first-line treatment for depression. Although U.S. guidelines have yet to change... because prescribing exercise is not profitable. 

Let us take it upon ourselves to know this science, then empower and prescribe ourselves, as our first line of mental and physical health therapy: heart pumping, blood circulating, energy moving, feeling-good chemical producing exercise on the daily.


Hint: If you haven't already, find some type of aerobic activity you love.
Keep trying different stuff until you find something that you really like and find fun and you'll look forward to (at least a little bit!)
This makes all the difference in the world. 

 
  • The Trifecta
This rich but succinct article out of John Hopkins focuses on heart health, but as we know, heart health is very much connected to overall health.. as is brain health.
It discusses the three types of amazing ways to move that keep us performing optimally in mind and body. 


Hint: Try to set aside time to do at least a little something every day..
even if it's just 15, 20 minutes (and more minutes is good too, of course!) and incorporating all three, each week.
  • Thought of the week:
Don't think about what can happen in a month.
Don't think about what can happen in a year.
Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.
Today is another day for you to start creating your own happiness.
