Despite recent progress made toward gender equality, the mainstreaming process identifies challenges yet to be addressed. In analyzing the diverse components of the gender mainstreaming strategy applied to health, this document presents lessons learned based on countries' experiences, achievements, and challenges, and offers transformative and forward-looking actions to implement.

A Framework and Indicators for Monitoring Gender Equality and Health in the Americas
The Framework stresses that "a distinction must be made between the biological and physiological nature of sex, and the roles and responsibilities in society imposed and adopted according to gender beliefs." Indicators are crucial for measuring the progress toward gender equality in health. The intended audience includes ministries of health, national mechanisms for the advancement of gender equality, planning offices, academia, PAHO/WHO staff, and other stakeholders.

Evaluates whether participation in the Moms’ Empowerment Program (MEP)—a 10-week, 10-session intervention designed to provide support and increase access to available community resources for women experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV)—enhanced the physical health of participants who self-identified as Latina.
