The Underground Railroad tells the story of Cora, a young slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia, who joins Caesar, a slave who has recently arrived from Virginia, to escape on the Underground Railroad, a secret network of actual tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil. Judy found this to be a well-written, historically researched novel about slavery in the US in the 1800s, its graphic descriptions and harrowing stories making for a spellbinding read.
