Wayne Werder, General Manager

It’s been a month of new beginnings around our region. The University of Waikato Tauranga campus welcomed hundreds of students for orientation, and 20 of those students will have an extra spring in their step thanks to scholarships awarded by the Tauranga Tertiary Campus Charitable Trust, supported by TECT. We’re looking forward to seeing our city thrive with a new generation of learners.

We’ve been taking part in the More FM Mount Everest Challenge, raising money for the TECT Rescue Helicopter and getting us back on the fitness bandwagon. It’s been fantastic to see so many people conquering the climb, enjoying this little piece of paradise we are lucky enough to call home.

After years of planning and development, the TECT Heritage Garden has been opened at The Elms, bringing a beautiful space to life that reflects the site’s historic and cultural significance.  TECT funding has also paved the way for expansion of land at Ngamuwahine Lodge, resurfaced tennis courts at Otumoetai Tennis Club, and the opening of a fantastic new exhibition at the Tauranga Art Gallery. These are just some of the projects and initiatives that add a richness to our region; sports to play, art to engage, historical sites to connect with, facilities to keep us active, and festivals to bring us together.

We feel incredibly privileged at TECT to be able to make so many dreams a reality. From the small grants that make a big difference to our local community groups, to the large grants that provide cornerstone funding for transformational projects, together we are building a region we can all be proud of.

TECT Draft Distribution Plan 2020/21
Each year we publish our proposed Annual Distribution Plan for feedback.  The current policy is that approximately 80% of distributions are to be distributed direct to beneficiaries, with the balance to be distributed through the grants programme.

This year TECT Trustees are proposing to distribute a total of $40,000,000 and we're now asking beneficiaries for their feedback on the plan. The final distribution will be confirmed in March once the trustees have taken into account the beneficiary feedback.

TECT Awards Scholarships

We had a scholarship celebration last week recognizing successful recipients who will be studying at the University of Waikato Tauranga campus this year.

As key funders of the campus development, TECT, Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Tauranga City Council supported the Tauranga Tertiary Campus Charitable Trust to fund three scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $23,000 for 20 students.

Through these scholarships we hope to make tertiary education more accessible to our local community, encouraging continued education and supporting excellence. We look forward to seeing these future leaders and change-makers shape a bright future for themselves, our region and the world, and are delighted we can be a part of that. Read more.

Ngamuwahine Lodge Receives TECT Grant
With a TECT grant of $200,000, the Ngamuwahine Lodge Trust was able to purchase the land that the Lodge sits on, including additional land. Now able to cater for more students, and with greater security for the future, we know the Lodge will be enjoyed by our community for generations to come.
