AIS-Salzburg Newsletter

Dear parents,

We’ve had an exceptionally interesting week and want to share with you some of the more exciting events and happenings that have been taking place on and off our campus here in beautiful Salzburg, Austria.  Certainly, the highlight of the week was the presence of a film crew on campus who are producing a professional video for the school.  Cameras seemed to follow us everywhere—in the classrooms, dormitories, downtown Salzburg; even on the Alpine slopes during Saturday’s ski trip.  We trust that the video will reflect the fascinatingly diverse and interesting community in which we reside and learn.

The making of our professional school video 

During a recent visit by a professional film company that was at our school to shoot a winter-themed short movie, we were able to snap some "making of" footage as a sneak preview in this 1-minute long video. 

In the Classroom: Physics

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate Archimedes' Principle for an object that is  denser than water. Archimedes' Principle states that an object floating or fully immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. The buoyant force on an object immersed in a liquid can also be determined by weighing an object in air and then in water. The apparent loss of weight of the object is equal to the buoyant force of the water. With this information, the students were able to determine the mass density of the different objects and of the fluids.

Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Agardy

Mr. Agardy has been teaching at AIS-Salzburg since 1986 and is our college counselor. In this video interview he speaks about his role at the school, what he enjoys most about teaching and finishes off with some insight into why graduates of AIS-Salzburg benefit from the AP Program at the school.

Upcoming Event - DVAC Championships

The boys' and girls' basketball teams have a final preparation game today before the Danube Valley Athletic Conference Championship on March 7th. The boys' team will be traveling to Bratislava for the championships while the girls will be competing in Vienna.
