The New Economy Initiative (NEI), in partnership with Model D Media, is excited to announce the 4th annual Startup Story Night. This year’s theme? “In Good Company.”We're happy to announce the following four storytellers will workshop their stories with Shannon Cason -- host of the In Good Co. Detroit podcast and Moth GrandSlam champion -- before performing them in front of a LIVE audience at Cliff Bell’s on Thursday, March 19, 2020:

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of Drinks x Design, and Design Core Detroit is celebrating the first edition of the year at Woodward Throwbacks, a reclaimed woodworking company specializing in home goods and custom furniture.

According to the management institute, design-driven companies outperform competitors 2:1. Come see why design is not just a deliverable; it is a process and way of thinking that can drive your entire business strategy.

The Woman Up and Learn Summit will be a day packed with dynamic speakers, a "real world’ entrepreneur panel ready to answer the hard questions from their peers and share their respective journeys, informative breakout sessions for early stage and second stage business owners, and expert advice on funding your business.  

Register on Michigan Women Forward’s website for the day and location that best suits you. Student discounts are available upon request. Everyone is encouraged to register and attend!

Apply for Spring 2020 Entrepreneur Training with ProsperUS.

Applications close on March 15th at 11:59 p.m.

This course offers participants an overview of fundamental business principles as well as dedicated one-on-one support. By graduation participants should understand their business model, market, and finances. ProsperUS will support participants as they legally register their business, create budgets and systems of bookkeeping, and write a business plan.

The program consists of:

  • 6 different training sites across the city of Detroit

  • 12 participants in each training site class

  • 12 two-hour in-class sessions at the training site (once per week, usually from 6 to 8 pm)

  • 10 one-hour one-on-one consultations (scheduled separately with trainer)

  • 15 week duration from first class to graduation

Applicants will be assigned to sites based on geography. Only applicants who live in Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park are accepted. Although operational businesses are prioritized, they may also accept experienced and focused applicants.

Applications will be reviewed in the second half of March and the strongest candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview. Interviews will take place in late March and early April and classes will start in late April.

The total cost of the program is $75. It is free to apply.

This September marks the 10th anniversary of the Detroit Month of Design, a milestone for the city of Detroit! Design Core Detroit is looking to Detroit’s design community to propose events, ideas and concepts to propel them into another great decade of design and innovation. There are eight ways to get involved. Learn more, attend info sessions, and apply by April 13th.
