Hello friends of DYC,
We are aware of health concerns within our community involving the Covid-19 Virus (Corona Virus). With that being said, the Darien Youth Club is concerned with the health of our participants, coaches, families, and fans. There have been discussions amongst the Board of Directors as to the direction that the DYC is going to take. This is an ever evolving situation and every hour and minute things change.
The Darien Youth Club has listened to the schools that we partner with and will be following their leads and recommendations. We will be cancelling all DYC activities this weekend, starting 3/13 at 3pm and going until 3/16 at 7am, that are held within our partner schools. Those events include, but not limited to,
basketball olympics, basketball skills day, softball winter workouts, and Stars baseball practice on Sunday. The schools received information from the DuPage Health Department recommending against gatherings that could have more than 250 people gathered at once.
DYC events that are held at off-site partner facilities are optional and will be at the discretion of the facility, director, and coach. It is my hope that we play it safe with this unknown virus and limit our contact.
On a side note, I ask that all of us educate ourselves on this virus and not over-react to hype on social media. I ask that we check on our elderly neighbors and relatives to make sure that they are okay and educated as well. Please follow the recommendations from the Health Department. If there is someone who is sick, the police and fire departments are putting procedures into place to help our community. Also know that the police and fire departments will be responding to many emergency calls related to Covid-19 over the course of the next few days and weeks.
Thank you all for your understanding during these trying times. We will update you as for future events as we learn more on the direction of this situation.
Thanks,
Nick Skweres
DYC President
