OUR VIRTUE FOCUS FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH--KINDNESS
As we continue to reflect on and practice the virtue of Kindness this month, we again draw on the advice our Kindergarten students gave us during their recent school assembly. They said, “
Kindness is a lot of things…like sharing, listening and being respectful. It is being a good friend, being cooperative and helping others. It is holding the door open and treating others how you want to be treated. Kindness is taking care of the gifts God has given us, including ourselves. When you think about it, kindness is love! And love is all you need! Making kindness can only work if you have the right recipe.”
Kindergarten Kindness Recipe
1 heart of love
¼ cup of peace
Zest of 2 oranges
Big bowl of sweetness and a little bit of sugar
Water because it’s good for you
1 litre of empathy
A pinch of “happiness” pepper
6 red roses because they represent love
1,000 g maple syrup
1 pound of respect
1 tbsp of baking powder
4 eggs
100 deep breaths of self-control
A spoonful of hope
10 scoops of fairness
2 shakes of niceness
A whole lot of God

We will again have a non-uniform day and invite all our students to dress as their
favourite literary character! Students do not need to bring money to participate.

Registration packages were due yesterday. If you have not yet submitted your package, please hand it in to the office ASAP.

ST. MICHAEL’S SPELLING BEE RESULTS!
Congratulations to Irene L. in Grade 6 for winning the In-House Spelling Bee on Tuesday, and to Donna B. in Grade 5 for placing 2
nd. A tip of the hat goes to Nathaniel S. in Grade 7 for placing 3
rd. It was an exciting competition lasting 21 rounds! Irene will represent St. Michael's at the CISVA Spelling Bee on April 28
th. Twenty students from Grades 4-7 took part in our In-House Spelling Bee. Special thanks to Mrs. Tantongco for working with all our spellers and for organizing this event, as well as the upcoming CISVA Spelling Bee final.

Grade 7 student, Andrea Nechita, was the driving force behind our special
non-uniform “Animal” day this past Monday. Here is her account of the event.
“I was coming home from an activity, and I was looking at YouTube videos in the car. I watched one video showing the wildfires in Australia, and I saw a koala dying. This was just heart breaking for me to see. So, when I arrived home, I decided I needed to do something about it and that’s how I got the idea.
I approached Mrs. Roche and made a slide show of the fundraiser and organization I wanted to donate to. The organization is called the St. Vincent de Paul Bushfire Society. This charity helps those affected by the wildfires in Australia, which can be animals or people.
Mrs. Roche and I talked about it and decided to do this fundraiser in March. We looked at fun prizes we could offer as an incentive for students and ordered these. Once a week, Mrs. Roche and I met and talked about what we needed to do before the non-uniform day.
The day was most successful! First of all, most students came dressed as some kind of animal. They brought in $2 just for wearing an animal costume. If they brought in $5.00 they also received a cute eraser. If they brought in $10 they got the eraser, a notebook, plus a chance to win a prize. The prize for the winning primary student was a stuffed Koala and the prize for the intermediate student was a Bluetooth speaker. Congratulations to our winners: Clare Da Silva (Gr. 2) and Daniel Leung (Gr. 4).
We thank everyone who participated. We brought in $1,342.00 and, after expenses, raised $777.00 to give to the charity in Australia. Thank you also to Mrs. Roche and the other members of the Student Leadership team who helped with this project: Mia A., Sophia P., Ieve R., Lahee H., Ava D, and Luna C.”
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR SUCCESS!
A big thank you to everyone who supported the Scholastic Book Fair last week. We were able to raise $1500 for new books! A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Tantongco and all our parent volunteers who worked tirelessly to decorate, sell and organize the book fair. We couldn't have done it without you!"

MAN OF THE SHROUD EXHIBITION
Saint Anthony of Padua Church at 8891 Montcalm St, Vancouver invites you to visit the Man of the Shroud Exhibition from
Wednesday, April 15-Monday, April 20th, the week after Easter. This is an extensive exhibit on the history, significance and scientific aspects of the Shroud of Turin—the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.
To add to the richness of this year’s exhibition, St. Anthony of Padua parish is pleased to have Shroud scholar and history professor, Dr. Cheryl White from Louisiana State University as the presenter from Thursday, April 16 until Sunday, April 19
th.

A Night in Camelot

The yearly Auction is St. Michael’s Parish’s largest single fundraiser. As our Parish
generously supports the school in many ways to benefit our students, everyone’s help is
needed to ensure the success of this event. Our Auction Committee is hard at work
planning, and thanks you in advance for your generous donations.
Bottle Donation Results
We’d like to extend a heartfelt “thank you!” to everyone who brought a bottle donation to
the AGM on Feb. 27. We surpassed our target of 100 bottles, with the following totals
for each grade:
Kindergarten: 24
Gr. 1: 16
Gr. 2: 7
Gr. 3: 9
Gr. 4: 20
Gr. 5: 14
Gr. 6: 10
Gr. 7: 4
That means the Kindergarten class is the winner of an extra recess. Congratulations!
Volunteers Needed
● Setting up: We’re looking for volunteers to help set up the Auction on Apr. 22-
24. This is a wonderful opportunity for Grade 7 and St. Thomas More students to
get their volunteer hours (up to 12 hours per person are available).
● TUPS: We need 3 volunteers to help out with Theatre Under the Pews. Shifts are
available in 5-hour segments, with an extra volunteer hour given for getting a
criminal record check. TUPS can accommodate up to 40 kids and always sells
out fast so we’ll need some help looking after the kids.
