COVID-19, School Closures and your Scouting Units

As you may have already heard this evening, Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Monday that all of Marion County’s public school districts and charter schools sponsored by the Mayor’s Office will close their doors starting Friday. Combined with already-planned spring breaks, the schools will remain closed through at least April 5.
For Pathfinder District, this is of immediate direct impact to Perry Township, Franklin Township and Beech Grove schools. Though not yet announced, we anticipate additional school districts in our area to follow suit in the near future.
As a reminder, on March 9th, Crossroads of America Council provided the following guidance for Scouting Units:

"If your school closes because of a confirmed case of COVID-19, please follow the protocol set forth by your school. Cancel any meetings until the school re-opens, and use extra precautions to protect yourself and your Scouts.
If you have to cancel meetings, please encourage parents to use this opportunity to teach their kids the lessons that they would be learning during their Scout meetings.
Lastly, we encourage all leaders to keep the youth and parents updated as they receive updates from the school by providing regular communications."

Should there be any change in this guidance, we will be sure to communicate it as soon as possible. However, at this time, we encourage all Pathfinder District Scouting Units to follow this directive, and follow the lead of the schools in your Units' area.
