Federal Reserve announces plans for $1.5 trillion asset purchases
The Fed has widened its range of purchases from just short-term U.S. Treasury bills to include include longer-term notes, bills and other financial instruments
This is the third move in four days the Fed has taken to preserve liquidity in the market
Many are taking this meeting as a warning against large gatherings

U.S. surveillance powers to temporarily expire on Sunday
A bipartisan bill that would renew three surveillance powers and impose new restrictions has been postponed after three senators stated that they would object the bill
The three senators are Rand Paul, R-Ky., Mike Lee, R-Utah and Ron Wyden, D-Oregon
The three surveillance powers in question are (1) allows the FBI to obtain court orders to collect business records on subjects in national security investigations (2) permits surveillance on subjects even after they’ve changed phones (3) allows agents to monitor subjects who do not have ties to international terrorism investigations
