 What's happening this week?

School Closed - 3/16-4/3
We are facing an unprecedented health crisis in our community and, as a result, the SFUSD made the decision to close all schools for the next 3 weeks. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily from person-to-person therefore please take this time to distance yourself and your family as much as possible to protect those most vulnerable. We all need to help slow the infection rate so our health care providers and essential workers can continue to do their jobs most efficiently.

Below are some resources to help you through the next few weeks.
Stay Informed
Keep up to date with all the latest information from SFUSD regarding COVID-19 by visiting their website here.

If you have not done so already, activate your Family Portal (ParentVUE) account today and update your contact information to ensure you receive district and school notifications. SFUSD are mailing home activation codes with instructions on how to sign up the week of March 16th. For any questions, please fill out this form bit.ly/familyportalhelp

The PFC will also try to keep our website updated with any new information and resources.
Educational Resources
Looking for ways to entertain and educate your kids during school closures? Many companies are offering free online resources!

HMCRA is working on a spreadsheet that compiles numerous online learning platforms. We will be adding to it over the next couple of weeks.

Here is a list of resources courtesy of SFUSD Libraries and the San Francisco Public Library.

Many education companies are also offering free subscriptions during the school closure. A comprehensive list can be found here.
Resources For Those In Need
While this sudden change is hard for all of us, it is a lot harder for some. If you are able, please reach out to classmates or neighbors to see if you can help. Let’s help each other get through these unprecedented times.

HMCRA Food Drive: If you have the means, please donate canned goods and non-perishable products.  A food drive has been set up by our Social Worker Ms Summer next to her office.  If you have food, diapers, wipes, or cleaning products to donate, please do.  If you need food to take home, please come take what you need.

Over the next couple weeks, Mr. Machado or Ms Summer will be available at school to support as needed and help families access the drive.

Free Meals:  SFUSD will be providing breakfast & lunch for pick-up (to eat offsite) beginning Tuesday, March 17 at 14 locations. Information can be found here. A map and list of locations can be found here.

If you can volunteer to help distribute food you can sign up here.

To donate to SFUSD's COVID-19 Response Fund, click here.

Reduced Priced Meals: Bistro SF Grill will be offering prepackaged lunch or dinner boxes for $5.50, starting Tuesday 17th at noon, to help families affected. The price just covers their expenses.

Emergency Childcare: San Francisco is opening emergency child and youth care centers at rec & park and library sites for children of front line workers and low-income families. Details can be found here.
In the media!
HMCRA made it into both the SF Chronicle and NY Times.
3/10 PFC/SSC Meeting Minutes
If you missed our last PFC/SCC community meeting, you can find the minutes here. The meeting included a vote on next years PFC Budget. We hope to see you at our next meeting on April 14th.
Drag Show - Postponed
We have made the decision to postpone the drag show following advice from SFUSD and Public Health recommendations to avoid bringing large groups of people together. The new date is May 16th. With the current school budget cuts proposed, this fundraiser is even more important than ever. Keep supporting and donating to your favorite contestant!  Donate here .More details to follow.
Help the YMCA send Kids to Camp

Forty percent of the youth who attend the summer day camp program at the Mission YMCA are homeless or in foster care.  Summer day camp gives these, and many other youth, a safe place to spend their summer, receive lunch and snack, and get to participate in a variety of experiences that they otherwise would not be able to. The YMCA has a policy to not turn anyone away from our programs due to their inability to pay and, for that reason, I am asking for your help to send 10 kids to camp this summer by raising $2,500.

A $250 donation will send 1 child to camp for one week. That $250 donation can be broken into 10 payments of $25/month for the remainder of the year.  Not only is this donation tax deductible, but it will make a very big difference in the life of a child this summer. How many campers would you like to support this summer?

Please help by making a pledge by March 20th at this Link so that we can give these youth the BEST SUMMER EVER!  Thank you!!!
