University Operating Status

Universitywide COVID-19 Information

To maintain the safety of our community, Rutgers University has been preparing to respond quickly and appropriately to the evolving COVID-19 coronavirus situation. As we plan for various scenarios, we continue to follow CDC guidelines. Please visit this site regularly to keep informed about the university’s activities to address this public health crisis.

This website is your official source of information about the university’s response to COVID-19. This is an evolving situation and we will provide updates as information becomes available.  Check this site frequently.

Below you will information and updates on many campus services. 

Academic Classes

  • Beginning Thursday, March 12, through the end of spring break on Sunday, March 22, all classes are canceled.
  • Beginning Monday, March 23, through at least Friday, April 3, all course instruction will be delivered remotely.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to remain off campus through April 3.

Services and Operating Hours


Buses: Operating on a Spring Break schedule until in-person classes resume.

Computer Labs: Operating Hours can be found here.

Dining Services: Operating Hours can be found here.
  • Busch and Brower faculty/staff dining halls will be open for students.  When classes are in session (but remote/online) students will be able to use their meal plans.
  • Please note there are no dining options available during Spring Break – this has been standard procedure.

Health Services: Health Centers are open Monday-Friday. Information about appointments can be found here.

Off-Campus Living: We are asking that students currently residing in off-campus rental housing give serious consideration to returning to their homes during the time that in-person classes are suspended. If you have any questions related to your situation, call Off-Campus Living & Community Partnerships at 848-932-5500 or the Dean of Students Office at 848-932-2300. Members of the Greek Life community can call OFSA at 848-932-7692.


Residence Life: Information about residence hall operations can be found here.


Rutgers New Brunswick Cashier: As of Monday, March 16, the New Brunswick Cashier office will be closed for in-person payments until class instruction resumes on campus. Students can make payments online at paymybill.rutgers.edu or mail payments to: Rutgers University Student Accounting Services, PO Box 2021, New Brunswick, NJ 08903-2021.


Rutgers Libraries: As of now, most Rutgers library locations are operating as normal. Please confirm your library's hours before you go.

Rutgers Student Food Pantry: Operating Hours are Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. Any changes to the operating schedule will be posted on social media (@RUFoodPantry).

Student Centers: Student Centers will have the following amended operating hours until April 5: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm


Zimmerli Museum: As of March 12, the Zimmerli’s  galleries remain open regular hours, Tuesdays through Sundays. However, as this is an ongoing - and rapidly evolving - situation, please check the website if you plan to visit. In the event our operating status changes, we will post updates there. Also Note: All activities scheduled through April 15, as well as the remaining meetings of Art Adventures spring session, have been cancelled.
Student Affairs Operating Status

In response to the University’s operating status, some Student Affairs departments and services will be operating in a limited capacity until further notice. We appreciate your understanding with this matter. This is an evolving situation and we will provide updates as information becomes available. Please continuously check this webpage the latest updates to Student Affairs operations and services. The below information is our current status as of March 13, 2020:

Parent and Family Association Meetings


The university has advised to not have meetings or gatherings with over 15 people in attendance.  Due to this restriction, the March and April Parent and Family Association meetings have been cancelled.

We still plan to bring you information in April regarding Commencement, so stay tuned for more information about how this meeting will be broadcast.
