The Arc of the Piedmont is monitoring the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and while this issue is being discussed on a global, national, state and local level, we are doing everything here to create a safe environment for the individuals we serve as well as our employees. There have been few cases in Virginia to date but we expect that top change in the coming days. I want you to know that safety and security of the participants and residents in our programs and our employees is our top priority.
The Arc of the Piedmont serves many individuals in residential and day program settings who are in the high risk category. With that at the forefront, we are taking steps to ensure there are adequate resources and staffing to assure continuity of care should we have confirmed exposure to the virus locally. Our plan of action is to limit the spread of this virus (and any others) and involves everyone taking part.
While we are not closing programs at this time, contingency plans are in development which include closing of our day support programs, cancellation of services and limiting access to our residential programs. The Arc of the Piedmont is reviewing new information constantly regarding COVID-19 and will implement any necessary policy changes to keep everyone safe and secure.
