TALENT SHOW UPDATE

Hi Murray Families - Due to the Albemarle County response announcement on 3/11/20 about coronavirus, we will be cancelling the Talent Show scheduled for March 20th. We are working with the school to explore creative alternatives for the kids to still share their performances, or postpone the event until May. As we explore alternatives, we will be sure to let you know. Thanks for your understanding!

OWNING OUR WEAKNESSES - EQUITY REPORT FINDS AS THEY RELATE TO HENLEY

We invite parents of rising 5th graders to join the March 24 Coffee with Costa which is a Call to Action on the results of the ACPS Equity report as it relates to the Henley Community. Significant disparities remain between race, culturally diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged students in our school system, which cannot be ignored. While Albemarle County Public Schools rank in the top 10% in the nation academically, it ranks poorly in many other indicators of diversity and equity so that not all its students are receiving the same quality education they deserve. The discussion will dip into potential reasons why and how we as a community can address these inequities. Please join us for a lively discussion along with guest speaker Dr Hairston who heads up the Culturally Responsive Teaching program, aimed at addressing these inequities by embracing diversity to enrich both the teaching and learning experience for all students. Please join us at 6:15 pm on Tuesday March 24 in the Henley Cafeteria. Child care will be provided along with food and refreshments so please RSVP here http://coffeewithcosta.rsvpify.com with whether you will be bringing children and how many. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on March 24.

LUMINARY IS LOOKING FOR SUBMISSIONS!

It’s that time of year again…

V.L. Murray’s literary magazine LUMINARY is looking for works of art, poetry, and stories from our creative kids for this year’s magazine.

If you’ve spotted an interesting piece of work from your child, submit it to the office for possible inclusion in LUMINARY! Include your child’s name, grade and teacher along with it. LUMINARY will choose one piece of art from all the submissions to decorate the cover of the magazine. No need to include the LUMINARY name on art as we will add that ourselves.

Submissions are due to the office by April 30 at the latest.

Feel free to email any questions to Caroline Hirst at carolinevt2000@yahoo.com. We can’t wait to see what our talented, unique, fun children
create!
