Responding to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Good morning Paris Church community.

Many of you have been asking how we as a community of faith will respond to the emerging outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Last night, our Session discussed at our monthly meeting how we will continue to fulfill the church’s mission during this uncertain time. Our primary concern is protecting the vulnerable, following the example of Jesus. We encourage everyone to protect their own health, protect those around them who are more vulnerable to this virus, and show empathy and Christian concern for those who are suffering or living in fear. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12 that we are all one body, and that when one member of the body suffers, the entire body suffers.

As we monitor the situation in our own community and our current level of risk, we have made the following decisions out of an abundance of caution.
- In-person Sunday worship will continue for the time being, however we encourage those who are in higher risk groups to follow the guidance of their health professionals and stay home if so advised. Those who are showing any symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath should stay home and worship through other means (detailed below).
- We are recommending that individuals who do come to worship refrain from physical contact with one another, including offering other signs of peace rather than shaking hands or hugging. Use soap and water or hand sanitizer after coming into contact with shared surfaces.
- There will no longer be refreshments after the Wednesday night Lenten service on 3/18.
- Our Deacons have suspended in person visitation until May 1st.
- The Spaghetti Dinner scheduled for 3/29 is postponed until the fall.
- Determinations about other gatherings will be made as the situation unfolds.

In the event of stricter guidance from public health and government authorities in our area, we are prepared to cancel all in-person gatherings and activities if and when the situation calls for that step. Updates will be made on Facebook and sent out through email and by Deacons over the phone to their flocks.

We are grateful that some steps have already been taken through God’s providence in advance of this concern to be able to worship online. We will continue to live-stream worship on Facebook at http://Facebook.com/ParisPresbyterianChurch for anyone who elects to stay home. If worship services are cancelled at any point, we will provide an alternative online worship and devotional opportunity. Those who are confined to the home and unable to access our online resources are encouraged to stay in touch with their Deacon and to participate in other individual acts of worship and devotion.

Please do not neglect the continued mission of the church in this time through giving. Tithe envelopes and checks can always be mailed to the church office at 127 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown, PA 15021 if you are not able to bring them in person. In addition, we are currently in the process of setting up online giving and will post information about that once it is set up.

And now, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
