Winnetka's Connection To Village Businesses and Events
Governor Pritzker Announces Bars and Restaurants Will Close to Public By End of Day Monday, March 16

On Sunday, March 15, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that all bars and restaurants in the State of Illinois will be closed to the public, beginning at the close of business today: Monday, March 16, 2020 through Monday, March 30, 2020. Restaurants may remain open for pick-up, drive-thru and delivery orders. The State is working closely with restaurant owners and food delivery services to help ensure kitchens can safely remain open to continue food delivery.

Winnetka Businesses Are Open

Winnetka is still open for business, and our business community is ready to go above and beyond for you. The Village of Winnetka and the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce are working together to compile a list of businesses that offer delivery and pick-up services. Please email the Village's Economic Development Coordinator Liz Dechant with information about services your business is offering to customers and please include pictures, specials, and website links, and we will share them with the community.

SBA Disaster Loan Assistance in Response to COVID-19

Last week, the Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that it will provide targeted, low-interest loans to small businesses and non-profits that have been and will be severely impacted by COVID-19. The SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program provides small businesses with working capital loans up to $2 million to provide extra economic support to overcome temporary losses of revenue.

This loan is not yet available in Illinois. Governor Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and Cook County officials are working with the SBA to gather loan requests from small businesses to submit to the SBA to access EIDL assistance. Fill out your disaster loan request form.

The Village of Winnetka will continue to provide updates as this funding becomes available. For more SBA programs or access to additional capital, please visit their website.

Employee Safety Remains Imperative

All employers are encouraged to implement strategies to protect their workers from COVID-19 while ensuring continuity of operations. The CDC recommends:
  • Actively encourage sick employees to stay home
  • Make arrangements for employees to work remotely where possible
  • Emphasize respiratory etiquette, social distancing and hand hygiene by all employees
  • Perform routine environmental cleaning
  • Coordinate with state and local health officials
  • Create a plan to best decrease the spread and increase of COVID-19 at the place of employment
To prevent stigma and discrimination in the workplace, do not make determinations of risk based on race or country of origin, and be sure to maintain confidentiality of people with confirmed COVID-19.

For more guidance, please visit the CDC's website.

Village of Winnetka COVID-9 Response

The Village will continually reassess prevailing conditions and will alert the community and businesses for more information, or if a need arises for an emergency meeting.

Residents can gather more information on COVID-19 from the CDC, the Illinois Department of Public Health, or the City of Chicago’s dedicated coronavirus website. Questions about the Village’s meeting cancellations can be directed to the Village Manager's Office or 847-716-3541.
