The CWEA is planning a CWE wide Home & Garden tour
for the year 2020!
 
 
Any homeowner in the Central West End interested in putting your home, condominium and/or garden on the June 5-7th CWE Home & Garden Tour can contact cwea@thecwe.org to discuss details. The Kick-Off Party will be held in one tour home on the evening of Friday, June 5.  All tour homes will be open to ticket holders Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 from 10a - 4pm.
Tuesday, March 10 Flying Buffaloes at Evangeline's - 7-10p - Flying Buffaloes return to the midwest on their Loaded & Rollin' Tour!
Wednesday, March 11 - CWE Gives Back Day - help make a difference in your own community! Shop and dine throughout the neighborhood to support Shriners Hospitals for Children - St. Louis, during the CWE's 4th Annual Give Back Day. Participating CWE businesses will donate 10% of the day's sales to Shriners.
Shriners is a wonderful CWE-based organization, providing specialized care to children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and other complex surgical needs.

Thursday, March 12 - Bowood FarmsKnife Skills with Cafe Osage - Join Cafe Osage’s chef, Sara Stagg, in this hands-on workshop focused on basic knife skills. Sara will demonstrate fundamental cuts and coach your technique while you practice. You’ll learn tips for maintaining and sharpening your knives and enjoy light bites at the end of the class. You are encouraged to bring your own knife, but we will provide knives to use as well. Workshop is limited to 8 participants. Price: $45. Taught by Sara Stagg of Cafe Osage. TENACITY brings together beautiful, haunting, and inspiring music for flute, harp, and strings. Event begins at 7:00 p.m. RSVP
Friday, March 13 - Premier Martial Arts - Minecraft Parents Night Out - Join us for this awesome Minecraft-themed Parents Night Out. We will learn cool karate moves, punch bags, do crafts and play team, individual and free-for-all games. We'll take a break for pizza and then back to the action! The event will be held from 5:30p-8:00p. $25/child (ages 5-12 years)
Saturday, March 14 - Bowood Farms An Introduction to Sashiko Embroidery - Sashiko embroidery originated in Japanese textile arts, in which decorative straight stitch patterns were used to mend and reinforce homespun fabrics. Despite its traditional roots, the abstract motifs typical of this meditative hand-stitching technique lend themselves perfectly to modern design. In this workshop, Casey will introduce sashiko materials and the basic stitch and you will embellish a fabric square. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your project, sashiko needle and thread. Since this is a longer workshop, Café Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. Price: $60. Taught by Casey York of Casey York Designs. This workshop is limited to 10 people.
Saturday, March 14 - Ballroom Dance Academy of St. Louis - Monthly Dance Social - "LEAPING LEPRECHAUNS" - General Dancing 8:00-10:30pm(note: there is no dance lesson this time) $12/person, for students with valid ID: $5/person cash preferred; light refreshments included. Wednesday, March 18 - World Chess Hall of Fame - 6:30-8p - Crafts & Cocktails: Framed Glass Pendants with Yuko Suga - Join us for an evening of jewelry designing with Yuko Suga! A featured artist in the exhibit "A Beautiful Game," Suga will guide participants through creating unique images considering identity that will then be transformed into a one-of-a-kind framed glass pendant that plays off of the idea of a modern dog tag. Saturday, March 21 - Bowood Farms - Best of Bowood : Spring Garden - The first in our series, this class focuses on our favorite perennials, shrubs, trees and vines for the spring garden. We have created a list of plants that will flourish in the Missouri garden and includes some plants that are commonly overlooked. Kathie will share a slide show presentation and discuss the merits of each plant and it’s growing conditions. After the lecture Kathie will tour the nursery to help you prepare your spring shopping list and answer any questions. Later classes in the series will explore our favorites for year-long seasonal garden interest. Price: $15. Taught by Kathie Hoyer. Please call 314-454-6868 to reserve your spot!

Wednesday, March 25 - Bowood Farms - Growing Dahlias - 11a-12p - We get so excited each year when dahlia season begins and these gorgeous blooms begin to arrive from Christine’s cut flower farm, Flowers in Clay. She has been growing dahlias here in the Midwest for many years which can be particularly tricky with our hot and humid summers. Come learn about how and when to plant your dahlia tubers, tricks for supporting these “dinner plate” sized blooms and how to cut blooms for maximum production. Price: $10. Wednesday, March 25 - World Chess Hall of Fame Monthly Music Series: Annie and the Fur Trappers—Join us for a special performance by Annie and the Fur Trappers, a Saint Louis-based jazz band. Known for playing traditional jazz favorites, classic blues, and unique original songs, Annie and the Fur Trappers will take you back to the Roaring Twenties: a time of fun, dancing, and music! Event begins at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 28 - Bowood Farms - Pansy Wreath Workshop - Welcome spring with a beautiful living pansy wreath. In this workshop you will plant a 16” wreath form with cheerful pansies to hang on your front door or in the garden. We will also discuss how to care of your wreath so that it blooms throughout spring.

Sunday, March 29 - Kennedy Park Neighborhood Mulching & Cleanup - Please join your neighbors any time between 10am and 3pm on Sunday, March 29th to cleanup and re-mulch Kennedy Park. Sunday, April 4 - The Annual Central West End Easter Egg Hunt will be held on the Sunday before Easter (April 5) at 4:30pm. This neighborhood event is held at Kennedy Park and is always a great time for children and parents alike. There will be lots of eggs to find and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
