Better Code Monday 09/03/20

Good day/evening! 👋

Here are this week's three coding tips:

Tip #1 - No more typos 🧹

Code Spell Checker is a VS Code extension that can help you spot typos in your codebase. It works well with camelCase code too! 💯

Tip #2 - Automate quality-checks 💎

Today, many tools are available for you to automate parts of the development flow. These tools help you keep your codebase in good shape.

For example. on every pull request, you can use Github's Actions (or any other CI/CD you have running) to:
  • Lint your code
  • Audit your packages
  • Run tests
  • Build your code
  • Run automatic quality-checkers
The more you automate, the more you will have time to work on the more fun challenging stuff. 👌🏽

Tip #3 - Be kind 😊

Sometimes technical arguments can get heated up. Often we as developers tend to argue out of a passion for our craft.

But remember, It is important to be compassionate towards other teammates.

This quote says it in a nice way:

“Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind, even if you are right." - Haruki Murakami
