Dear <<First Name>>

Welcome to the Spring 2020 edition of Butterfly Conservation Warwickshire's e-newsletter.
Following yesterday evening's announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, it will come as no surprise to any of you that Butterfly Conservation Warwickshire has cancelled all its events for 2020.

After a long winter, many of us have been longing for the first sunny days of March to bring us our first butterflies of the year. Unfortunately, this year will be very different for all of us with opportunities to see butterflies or moths limited to our gardens and immediate surroundings.

Butterflies bring joy to us all; a symbol of freedom, of carefree summer days and time spent with friends and loved ones. The Brimstone is easy to spot from the kitchen window as it dashes through the garden. It lifts the soul, warms the heart and brings hope to all that see it.

Other butterflies may be more difficult to identify from the confines of our homes but if you do venture into your garden for some much needed exercise, keep an eye open for the Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Red Admiral and Comma. Over the next few weeks as the weather improves and the days grow longer, the Orange-tip and Speckled Wood may visit your garden too. The Small White and Green-veined White will be next, followed by the occasional Large White.

Our gardens are havens for wildlife, buzzing with bees, beautiful butterflies and birds. Nature is vital for our wellbeing so open a window and listen to the birds, watch the bees and the butterflies as they go about their daily business and your spirits will be lifted.

Warwickshire Moths and Butterflies on Facebook

Ever wondered which moths are on the wing in gardens around Warwickshire, or what other moth-ers are getting in their garden traps?

Share your Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull garden moth records and photos, and get help with identification via our Warwickshire Moths Facebook group.

You can also share your garden butterfly sightings, photos and reports with us, and get help with identification via our Warwickshire Butterflies Facebook page. Don't forget to submit your garden butterfly and day-flying moth sightings to our website too!

Website Update

Those submitting butterfly sightings last year may have been frustrated with a timeout error on our branch website. The cause of this error was only discovered once Google updated their reCAPTCHA documentation. Whilst many managed to submit their records, others struggled so we have now removed the Google reCAPTCHA system.

Fingers crossed, you will be able to submit your garden butterfly and day-flying moth records without any problems this year but if you do encounter an issue, do let us know so we can fix it!

We will continue to look at ways to improve the website but if you have any suggestions, we would love to hear from you.
