Luke Buescher Uganda

Dear Friends and Family, I pray this letter finds you abiding in the love and joy of our Savior.

Tonight, I am sitting on the front porch of my new house about 3 minutes walk from the church. It’s a cool night, by Ugandan standards, and I am sitting here thinking about how kind and gracious the Lord is to us; Not only to save us through the sacrifices of His Son, which is more than I can comprehend or understand, but to call us into His service and to bring eternal purpose into our everyday lives. Today, I spent the day studying the book of Jeremiah with my pastors and fellow teachers. What a blessing it is that my “work” is to study and teach the Bible. I get to meditate on the truth of His word, let it sink in and change my heart, and consider how to best declare it to men that love Him and are working for His kingdom. If you were to offer me any job on the planet, I doubt whether there’s anything I would be more interested in.

I have been back in Uganda for just about a month now, and thankfully, have been able to jump right back into the swing of things. I have been so blessed by reuniting with my Ugandan family in Christ, and more than every feel at home here. Life is busy, as always. In our widows ministry we have added over one hundred new widows, and four new churches. In my personal life I have changed houses, and as a teaching staff we finished the book of Job and are preparing to teach the book of Jeremiah. Aside from all this I am working with the young adults, the praise and worship ministry at the church, and taking opportunities to teach at other churches when possible.

WIDOWS MINISTRY

This year we have added over a hundred widows and four churches to our program, bringing the total to 150 widows, and 6 churches. The fruit we are seeing in this ministry continues to amaze me. One testimony from the month of December impacted me deeply, and I would love to share it with you. Unfortunately, one of our widows lost an 11 year old daughter due to epilepsy. When the pastor of the church (Samuel Olara) heard what happened he immediately went to her home. Upon arriving at her home he found that all the widows from her fellowship group, as well as the other widows in the church, we already at her home comforting her and putting together all the arrangements for the burial. Samuel found that everything was already taken care of by the other widows in the program. The widow herself testified and said “I have never hoped to feel this much love in my life”. It’s amazing to see these ladies living out what it means to love one another and be the body of christ.

CHANGING HOUSES

I said in my last update that I would have less than a month to find a new place to live when I got back. Thankfully, the Lord provided a great place about 3 minutes walk from the church. I’m very thankful to be near the church, and am looking forward to the opportunities that will come from living in the community. Already, with the country on lock down due to the Corona Virus, we have had the opportunity to host a small cell group of ten people here in place of Sunday services.

SCHOOL OF DISCIPLESHIP

As a teaching staff we just finished studying through the book of Jeremiah. I was really impacted by God’s desire for the heart of the nation of Israel, and how often their hearts were turned away from Him. It’s causing me to examine why I do the things that I do. My desire is that every action I take, word I speak, and thought I think, would be out of love for the Lord.

P.S.

My trip to the Middle East was amazing! God is doing doing great things in the Muslim world. Please continue to pray for the growth of the Kingdom there.

About Corona Virus, up till now, Uganda has no confirmed cases. everyone here is doing just fine health wise. I have no plans to come home because of the Virus, but desire to be where God has called me as long as it is possible.

Thank you all for your love, prayer, and support. I pray for you all often.
