This week we will continue on our Lenten Journey and hear from Mary of Bethany. If you would like to "read ahead" we will be using John 12:1-8 and 1 Corinthians 11:15 on Sunday.

On April 6th the women of the Penn Yan UMC have invited women from United Methodist Churches in Yates County to join them at Palm Monday Breakfast. More details will follow. 

During the Lent Season we have been invited to join in the collection of hygiene kits for UMCOR. When we attend on April 6th we will bring our collection of items to the Palm Monday Breakfast. Please help by purchasing any of the items on the list below and brining them to BPUMC.

Hygiene Kit Materials ($12.00 for kit for shipping)

  • One hand towel (15 x 25 –17 x 27 inches)
    • No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels
       
  • One washcloth
    • No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels
       
  • One comb
    • Must be sturdy with at least 6 inches of teeth
    • No pocket combs or picks
    • Rattail and combs without handles are acceptable but must have at least 6 inches of teeth
       
  • One toenail or fingernail clipper
    • No emery boards or metal nail files
       
  • Bath-size soap (3 oz. bar or larger)
    • No Ivory or Jergen's soap
    • Do not remove from packaging
       
  • One adult toothbrush
    • Do not remove from packaging
    • Personal advertising not acceptable
       
  • 10 adhesive bandages (¾ by 3 inches)
    • Common household bandages acceptable
       
  • One one-gallon size re-sealable bag
15th Club


Join us on Sunday, March 15th at 5:30pm as we celebrate Jeff and Barb McDowell and their ministry. Jeff will not be our District Superintendent effective July 1st. This will be a perfect opportunity to thank Jeff and Barb for their leadership and pray for them as they embark on a new journey. Please bring your favorite dish to share and your own table service. 

Appointment Season

It is "Appointment Season" in the Upper New York Conference. A time when our Cabinet and Bishop meet to determine how best to match the needs of churches with the gifts of clergy. I am going to try and keep you up to date with the appointments in our area. These are the appointments and/or changes that have been made since December 31, 2019 (that impact our area churches):

Rev. Sandi Perl ended her appointment at Penn Yan UMC effective December 31, 2019

Rev. Kristen Allen will be appointed to Penn Yan UMC effective July 1, 2020.

On Sunday, March 15th right after church we will be holding a Church Charge Conference to vote on a change in compensation package for Pastor Sandi. This meeting will be very brief.
There are several opportunities to learn and worship during this Lent Season. Here is a schedule:

Lent Dinner and Movie
Pastor Kim Lyons and I will be doing a dinner and movie series in March. These movies will be held at Branchport UMC and begin with a dinner at 6:00pm. The movie will start at 6:30pm.

March 13 - Mr. Roger's Neighborhood (movie)
March 20 - Messiah (movie)

Lenten Lunches will be held at the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan beginning February 27th from 12:00-1:00pm. The cost is $7.00 per person.
