RANGATAHI MAI KI TE RANGATIRA

OUR YOUTH OUR FUTURE

Our offices are closed but our organisation is not. We are working from home to continue supporting our Rangatahi. We are running a pilot online Learner Driver Licence Programme next week following the success of our online Licence to Work programme this week. Our Restricted Driver Licence Programme have been suspended until the shutdown is lifted.

“Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari taku toa he toa takitini”

Success is not the work of one, but the work of many

ROAD READY RANGATAHI FROM TAITA COLLEGE
Licence to Drive! Students from Taita College show off their Learner Driver Licence
There are 17 young people from Taita College ready to take to the road now they have gained their Learner Licence with YOUth INSPIRE. This group were the first to use our new DRIVE Resources from NZTA - which is more interactive and helps our Rangatahi to absorb all the critical knowledge they need to pass the test and be safe on our roads.
THE ROAD TO EMPLOYMENT REQUIRES A LICENCE

To help Tyson with his career pathway, he needed his Restricted Driver Licence. We paired him up with our volunteer mentor, Phillip Dowie, who took Tyson for a total of nine lessons - and he passed first time!

“Gaining my driver licence has given me more opportunities at work. It will also help me transport my whānau safely and responsibly”

We have a waiting list of Rangatahi wanting to gain their Learner & Restricted Driver Licence. YOUth INSPIRE provides a heavily subsidized service for young people who face barriers to achieving their licence.

AUTHOR PATRICK HARLOW HELPS OUR RANGATAHI
Car enthusiast, author, and teacher, Patrick Harlow, with an Almac Sabre he built himself

A passion for automobiles and teaching expertise has made Patrick Harlow a fantastic addition to the Road Ready Rangatahi Driving School. Patrick not only volunteers as a mentor driver for our Restricted programme, he also volunteers as a facilitator for our Learner Licence programme.

“Having a driver’s licence used to be a rite of passage, unfortunately, now it's a privilege. Therefore, I think it is important to support the younger generation so that they lead us into a better future”

Thanks to the help of people like Patrick, 130 our of Rangatahi now have their Learner Licence and we've provided 346 driving lessons!

He mihi ake ki a mātou mō ō koutou awhi ki ngā Rangatahi o Te Awa Kairangi

We thank you for supporting the Rangatahi of Hutt Valley.

Thanks to the generosity of Adrian at Value Motors, we now have two vehicles for our Driving School. When the shutdown is lifted, we will need more mentor drivers to help our Rangatahi get on the road to employment! If you, or someone you know, can spare three hours per week, we'd love to hear from you. Cars and full training will be provided. Contact Briar: driving@youthinspire.co.nz.
THANK YOU TO OUR VALUED SPONSORS AND FUNDERS
