March is traditionally a busy time for the Society and the Irish Community in Hong Kong. Unfortunately this year it’s been decidedly quiet as we all take sensible precautionary measures due to the impact of COVID-19. Nevertheless as promised, we are continuing to schedule and plan future events when it is anticipated restrictions will be removed.   We hope to see as many of you as possible over the coming days and weeks to raise a glass to St Patrick. Remember  .. stay COVID-19 safe whatever you get up to!!

Saturday 14th March

Although our ball is not going ahead this Saturday, there is no excuse not to get outside and head to the beach for the Family Fun Day Fundraiser organised by the Fight for Finn fundraising team.

Money collected through the Fight for Finn campaign will go directly to supporting Finn’s medical costs, travel expenses, or even something special for Finn himself.  With lots of beach activities planned, paddling and a Fun Run too, there's something for everyone. Join the BBQ and get a pint of the specially brewed 'Fight for Finn' beer, listen to traditional music played by ARBORY ensemble and watch performances by Irish Dancers. For more information on the day please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/2803758266359630/ or to book your BBQ, Quiz Team and other activities go to: www.treasureislandhk.com/bookings/tig-fightforfinn  #fightforfinn

St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday 17th

Celebration Mass for the Feast Day, 10am

Unfortunately, we have been advised by St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Garden Road that all mass and church services have been cancelled until further notice.

Get your Irish On!!

FORTUNATELY, all of our GreenCard business partners will definitely be open for business which may involve some prayers to your own favourite deity by the end of the night.  No shortage of opportunities to celebrate and support your local Irish businesses. Come along for the craic agus ceol to celebrate the feast day of our patron saint and don’t forget to wear green!!

The party is definitely on at Delaney’s with Happy Hour all day until 9pm at TST and Wanchai.  Noel is sure to be in flying form with plenty of Guinness flowing and with he new arrival Hop House 13 beer now on draught and exclusively available at Delaney’s.  No excuses with no room at the bar in Wanchai with their special lobby bar just for Paddy’s Day!!

If you’re closer to Central you can head to RULA Live where you can see the infamous and fabulous Naggin Eejits throwing shapes and keeping it Irish!!  Follow the Naggin Eejits on social media as these are guys are tearing up Hong Kong this March.

March Madness continues in McSorleys Soho, Discovery Bay and Elements starting this Saturday with Bushmills shots at only $10 with every pint of Guinness. Feeling peckish... they have Guinness glazed Chicken Wings to keep the hunger at bay !!  The Cantering Leprechaun (aka The Jockey, tell Kevin the St Pats sent you) will opens its doors for two weeks in Happy Valley to bring some Irish cheer.

Thursday 19th March

Joint St Andrews Society Drinks Event

If you’ve managed to recover from the Tuesday night shenanigans, we are again teaming up with our Celtic cousins for a social event on Thursday night in Delaneys Wan Chai. Come along to meet old and new friends. We are sure there will be no shortage of conversation (all donning green face masks of course)!

Summer Events

Dan Manning Cup 2020

Plans are afoot for the return of the Dan Manning Golf Cup for 2020.  Dan was President of the Society in 1996 and an ardent golfer so the Cup Day is a chance to raise funds and a glass to his memory. If you are interested in participating in what has always been a great golf day (ok so allegedly it starts well but falls apart on the Back 9), let us know via any of our contact channels below.

Beach Clean Up as Geailge 2020

Doing your bit for the environment and learning the “cupla focal”.  A great way to spend a Saturday with the kids and this event will take place May/June.  Spots will be limited so be sure to register interest via any of our contact channels.

Recent events are understandably taking their toll professionally and personally.  Whenever you can, support your local Irish Businesses and please don’t forget our Charity partners Darkness into Light, Kely Support Group, Mind HK and the Samaritans who continue to provide support and advice on mental health issues.

Stay safe and healthy and looking forward to seeing you all very soon!
