"Racing is a great mania to which one must sacrifice everything,
without reticence, without hesitation"
(Enzo Ferrari)
Coming soon
The next book in our Exceptional Cars series focuses on Ferrari, specifically the four-cylinder-engined, evocatively shaped two-seater: Ferrari 857S – The remarkable history of 0578M.

Partnered with some of the greatest sports car drivers of the period including Castellotti, Gendebien, Maglioli, de Portago, Trintignant and Phil Hill, Ferrari 0578M personifies, if an inanimate object can personify anything, Italian road racing.

Award-winning author Ian Wagstaff (above) chronicles the full racing history of 0578M including its time as a factory entry and subsequent seasons when it competed in privateer hands both ‘Down Under’ and in Scandinavia.

Illustrated with beautiful period photos and complete with studio shots of the car today, this is an excellent addition to the series.

We already knew that our author Ian Wagstaff was a man of many talents but even we were surprised to learn that this extends to competing in the World Stone Skimming Championships!

The Prancing Horse
0578M is not the only tribute to the famous Italian marque in our catalogue.

It joins Ferrari 250 LM – The remarkable history of 6313 (below left) and Ferrari 250 GT SWB – The remarkable history of 2689 (below right) in Exceptional Cars.
Two superb Ferraris also feature in our Great Cars series.
One focusses on the Ferrari 250 GT SWB, owned by Ross Brawn and driven by Stirling Moss for Rob Walker Racing.

In the words of author Doug Nye, ‘Some stories simply write themselves. I have really enjoyed riding along with this one, and now I very much hope that you do too...'

2119 GT won races almost every time out, including the 1960 RAC Tourist Trophy for Moss. And Ross Brawn is not the only well-known owner – as Doug Nye writes, 'This great and historically important motor car has been owned, preserved, restored, used and hugely enjoyed by a 'Who's Who?' of 'true car guys' – enthusiastic, discerning and immensely knowledgeable connoisseurs'.
The second book concentrates on what is often described as the world's greatest (and most expensive) sports car, the Ferrari 250 GTO. Chassis 4153 GT is a prime example, in original 1962 body shape and restored to its original silver with French tricolore stripes.

Period racing was mainly in France and Belgium, with its maiden race being Le Mans in 1963 – quite the baptism of fire, but a successful one, with a second in class and fourth overall.

The book also touches on the start of the famous Ford v Ferrari battle, as arguably the car's greatest victory was the 1964 Tour de France, where it beat not just other GTOs but the Ford-backed Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupes (which themselves feature in our latest Great Cars title).
